Which spark plugs to order?

The catalog lists 4 different ones: two types for each of two brands: Denso, and NGK. Which do I order? Is there a consensus on prime?

With 42K mi but 17 1/2 years, do I probably need new plugs? Can I just clean them? My car is '91 manual.

Also, is replacing the air filter with an OEM one that important? Do most guys just get a Fram or STP or is the NSX filter even available in these brands? Sorry for not searching more, but I'm trying to pull together my second parts order for tomorrow. This T-belt/WP replacement is sure snowballing:smile:

Thanks,

Bill

The gasoline to drive 3000 miles costs about $400. Then there's tires, insurance, and so on. If I can spend that much to drive, I can afford to spend a couple dollars more for an OEM oil filter.

The book calls for replacing the air filter every 30,000 miles--for which I've spent $4000 on gasoline.

I've never seen a compelling argument not to use OEM filters for an NSX.

I would go with Denso Irridiums

They have a .6mm point instead of NGK's .8mm electrode.

The irridiums are about 7$ a pop and much better than the recommended plat plugs.

I run NGK irridums because Densos are hard to get for me.

also you dont have to change them for exnteded periods of time.

Happy motoring

I am just trying to figure out which of the four in the Acura parts list to get.

Am I missing the place where it states the conditions for each of the two models within the brands?

Also, what are the parameters for changing the plugs? Mine are probably 17 years old with 42K mi, but do they have an age like T-Belt?

Also, how do I test my coils while they are out?

Thanks,

Bill

Check the sticker on your airbox or look in your owners manual. They're listed in there on mine. 2 different #s for NGK or the Denso ones, IIRC.

Do not run Denso Iridium. They have a hole at the top of the plug which makes for bad connection to the coil.

Your right! Very small in the lower right corner, but has the NGK 6 and whatever the Denso is. It also says change after 60 k mi. I only have 42 k mi on my 17 1/2 year old plugs. Whaddya think?

I prefer the NGK plugs. There are two heat ranges made for the NSX. Number 6 should be used on normal street driven NSX. Heavy track driven NSX should consider number 7s. We offer both here, and they are a heck of a lot less than the dealership and the same thing:

Thanks Chris! OK, looks like NGK 6's it is!

What about the milage verses age noted above though? My coils are out now, but I would rather save the $$ if I don't need new plugs. It seems like I am replacing everything else right now:tongue: .
