If you were looking to spend 40K or so on an NSX, which one would you buy? I'm not looking for advice...I already have the NSX I want. Just curious about where the market is going. Both these cars are going for about the same money. Assume you could deal down to a comparable price on either one and don't take color into consideration...assume both are the same color and it is one you like.

Vote above, then please comment.

On the one hand we have a pristine, low mileage, all original red 1991 with just 12,800 miles.

On the other hand, we have a very tastfully modified 1998 spa with 47,500 miles, a solid but not-original engine, all recent maintenance, and repairs and a respray after some light damage. (I assume NOT a salvage title.) $39K

Assume that the damage actually was limited and that the repairs were properly done and the respray was correctly prepped. In other words assume that the repair work is not obvious even with a close inspection. (Thanks, Adnan)

Not sure if you are going to learn anything from this poll aside from most people do not like accidents and paint work. A better comparison would be the first NA1 you posted versus a red 98 without paint work with 60k miles. Then it comes down to mileage versus 6-spd.

Pretty hard to find a pristine AP2 at a comparable price even with 60K on the clock. That's why I picked the 98. Thanks for the comment.

Both potentially have issues IMO ...

The original 91 is only good if you can keep it wrapped in cotton wool and very rarely use it otherwise you devalue the reason someone would buy this, ie low mileage originality. And if you are goint to use it then you have the age issues to address before you could confidently take to the highway and 8k rpm, ie hoses, belts etc

The 98 has the NA2 upside but as mentioned above, the 'issue' for some would be the light damage (why are all accidents described as light damage??) and paintwork + engoine issues.

As above, change the NA2 spec then go again with the Poll

Cheers

Depends on what you want to do with the car.
Personally i'd have no issue with car that has a history if it's documented and i can take a look underneath do a full PPI on it.
It still a risk so the price should reflect that.

Anyway I've seen some bad damage repairs, that look doable from the out side take a look underneath and it's a complete wreck.

91. That way I don't have to explain about the repair and respray down the road to low ballers when I sell if I had bought the 98.

91 since it's the lightest and has a usable glove box. GAWD the NSX blows for storage in the cabin.

Mileage doesn't scare me.

I don't care for OBD2 jap cars. PITA to modify.

USA cars OBD2 are uber easy to mitigate check engine lights with easy hook-n-program with stock ECU.

Wasn't the yellow one aquired not long ago by a Prime member? I wonder why it's up for sale? I remember it b/c it has the gunmetal work cr's along with oem sideskirts that have the vent modified into them (don't see these too often). If also remember that it had custom yellow decals on the wheels which appear to have been removed.

I can under stand an accident because who knows how bad it could have been, unless it's Shawn who documents it all, but paint? My cars been repainted, I think the entire car from what seems like vandalism. I'd rather have new paint than oem scratches, imo. As for the above thread, it's easier to compare a newer higher Millage to an older low Millage. I'd buy the 91 based on low miles, but probably 1 owner or at the least oem engine. The other who knew why the engine really went. If it came to new vs old year and Millage, I'd actually get a 02 with 40k over a 95 with 20k. Half the problem with any high end car is just rotting. Like garage queens, 10k miles in 20 years can't be good for any car. It either had 1 good run then sat or started several times to go down the drive way. I'd prefer a relatively driven car.
