I'm trying to affix my after-market front-lip to my front-bumper's lower-valance... what type of 3M VHB tape is recommended (ie. strongest, most durable)?

And when I say, "what type"... I mean what #, not "oh, you know like the thick, mounting stuff that's black and sticky on both sides. Sorta like the stuff that held my side-skirts on, fo'sho! 3M, FTW!" :D

I am thinking the 3M VHB 5952...(?)

I don't think using any kind of 3m tape for the front lip is good. Can you use the factory mounting points? If not I would drill out 6 or so small holes and screw them together using clips. Im not a fan of 3m.

I used 3M tape for my WW front lip attaching directly to the front cover for many years without fail. Matter of fact, I recently took it off and had a heck of a time peeling it off.
Sadly, I don't remember the exact product number as I got an extra roll from my body shop that did the work to try and make the rear spats stay on. Now THAT is hard to do.

I don't have the specifics, but I used the red 3M tape, that once peeled from the wrapper is clear. It held through a number of scraping driveways/etc when I had my NSX slammed with WW front lip. When I removed it, that 3M tape was still holding strong as ever. I've used it to mount HID ballast on several friends cars as well.

techniques...

Well, I currently have my after-market lip attached using some MacGyver-engineering... ie. some sort of adhesive that the shop used w/ special rivets meant for plastics/synthetics. However, I am replacing my lower-valance so I have to re-affix my after-market lip to my new(er) lower-valance.

yellow-scorpion... can you please elaborate on the "small holes and screw them together using clips" technique? I've been to many Home Depot / Lowes stores as of late and I can't seem to conceptualize anything to rig-up.

& Zishan... thanks for the affirmation, of sorts. 3M has a myriad of VHB (Very High Bond) tapes for many varying applications.

I believe the '5952' might be the one to get. It's the strongest, thickest, stickiest, and most expensive... :D

I just wanted confirmation from someone who actually had used it, before I acquired some of it.

I used 3m to mount my WW front lip. I also used a 3m bonding agent that is supposed to strengthen the bond. I could only find it at Grainger. So far, it has worked great. The only thing is that once you touch the tape to the body after the bonding agent has been applied, it is very difficult to get off.

all the best,

but... what tape, though! :-D

nbovelle/Nate... I believe that might be an 'adhesion promoter', also offered by 3M! Thanks for the source, I was indeed looking for some...
