I had a similar "where's the engine" experience.  I went to get my car inspected so I register it.  First they had they has this rpm sensor that actually detected the rpm's even though the guy held it over the front of the car.  Then I went to the second station where they asked me to pop the hood.  I did so like a good citizen.  They started laughing after they opened the hood.  Then the guys marched confidently to the back of the car and told me to pop the back.  Again, I was a good citizen.  I then opened the appropiate section of the car and they fell back amazed.  But can ya blame em!  They said they didn't know Acura made a car like this!
