I decided to play around a bit with some numbers - where the members of the NSX Club of America live, in comparison with the population of those states/provinces. Here's what I came up with.

For each state/province, three numbers appear: the number of club members, the overall population in millions, and the number of club members for each million people. These are presented in descending order based on the last statistic.

Very interesting post Ken. It's amazing what statistics can do ........ ;)

What's with NY with only 34 members  Even when you add all the NE they are still less than California .......... ??

And last year, Citrus Heights in California had the most number of residential NSXs/0.5 sq. mile at a total of 4 :D ...... Three black and one silver 2001 which seems to have changed address.

One can only speculate, but... 42 percent of the people in New York State live in New York City. And I am quite certain that New York City has by far the greatest percentage in the country of affluent households who don't own cars. I'm referring to the city itself, excluding its suburbs. You can see a reflection of that by looking at the numbers for the four most populous cities in the country:

New York City - 8.1 million people, 5 club members
Los Angeles - 3.9 million people, 8 club members
Chicago - 2.9 million people, 10 club members
Houston - 2.1 million people, 10 club members

Between excellent public transportation, and hailable taxicabs everywhere at all hours, monthly parking garage rates that are the same as rates for entire apartments in many other cities, and rental car offices throughout the city, many, many folks get by with no car at all. Living in the Big Apple is just not the same as elsewhere. It has plenty of attractions and excitement, and in many respects is a wonderful place to live; it's just not necessarily the best place for car enthusiasts.

I doubt that. For example, Citrus Heights has two club members out of a population of 120,000. Compare that with Carnation, Washington, with two club members out of a population of 1200. Or Bishop, California, with two club members out of a population of 3500.

Let me rephrase that so you don't have any doubts ;)

NSX in a 0.5 mile residential radius

And my challenge from a year ago is still on ........

I suspect we can find some place to equal that. If I recall correctly, there are at least two different instances of club members with three NSX in a single household. All either one needs is one more NSX within half a mile... :D

We would probably have more members in NY if we had California's climate. The NSX is truly an extravagance in the Northeast considering most of us keep it off the road for about 4-5 months per year depending upon the number of storms.

It would be extremely expensive to own one in NYC because of the costs associated with insurance and parking, especially if you live in Manhattan. Also, it is difficult to drive it in many parts of the City because of traffic conditions which take all the fun out of a manual transmission.

But more importantly, will the California population be as supportive of NSXPO 2004 in NY as we are going to be with NSXPO 2003?

While the amounts are not yet decided, I am willing to bet money that the cost for someone to attend NSXPO 2004 - including the event registration fees and hotel rooms - will be less than that of NSXPO 2003...

Re: Re: Re: Where Do NSX Club Members Live?

Not surprised to see CA atop that list...and I know of at least three NSXers (though I don't know if they are NSXCA members) who live within a 0.5 mile radius of Marina del Rey.

Or Bishop, California, with two club members out of a population of 3500.

Hmmmm, I haven't seen any NSXs up in Bishop, and I took a lot of trips to Mammoth this year. Of course, these members could have their cars hibernating for the winter...or, perhaps, they no longer own (or never have owned) NSXs.

Actually, that figure is not high at all. I have 2 in my garage. There is a 1991 red next block and a red in 4 blocks away that I know of. I can probably find another one close by.

I have had contact with both owners in Bishop, and both own (or have owned) NSXs.

When the second one joined, I mentioned that we had another member in town with an NSX. He was incredulous.

This is an extremely interesting study. Do you think that we can move this thread to the general topic section? I didn't see it until today!!

Thanks for your time, Ken, for providing us with such an interesting stats!!

Interesting info indeed, thanks Ken!

I just realized the other day that NSX Prime had almost 4000 members.

It would be interesting to find out how many of these 3800+ members own NSXs...

Ken,

Very interesting stuff. Your discussion of urban areas is right on. When I lived in Manhattan, I would not own a car. When you need one, you can rent it for the weekend, exotic if you wish.

When looking at NH, good roads, limited congestion and resonable insurance rates make it a great place for car lovers.
I know of at least 5 other owners in the Nashua- Londonderry- Manchester areas that are NOT NSXCA members.

Still trying to get them,

Rich

The position of a northern state in the number two position is a testament to your efforts on behalf of the club. Thanks, Rich!

Ken,
Am I right? It looks like less than 1 in 8 NSX owners are members of the NSXCA?

Ken, wonder what the numbers would look like now?
I'm sure the percentage geographical distribution is pretty much the same. The total number of club members as of the start of this month is 1113, including 1082 from the United States, 21 from Canada, and 10 elsewhere.

I bet there is not one member of the Nsxca that lives in Manhattan. There maybe a few members on prime who does thou but they probably dont own a Nsx. I can only recall one who lived in the financial district and his midnight pearl was for sale at the time.
