ive been looking at the lotus elise exige and the parts available engine wise every where and for cheap. So im wondering about my nsx. If i need heads where do i get them? if i need another block where do i get it? I thought alot of this motor was from the legend motor but i see nothing is interchangeable from what ive been reading. Besides dealer. I tried ebay. thanks guys

i have heard through this forum that some legend parts are interchangeable. As far as where to get the parts you are looking for, i would keep your eyes glued to the "parts for sale" section. You could call around to wrecking yards but odds are the cars have already been fixed or parted out.

Someone can chime in who may have more experience with finding these parts.

Be prepared to look hard and pay a lot.

Elise and Exige use a Toyota engine that has variations used in the celica, hence they are more common.

yes this has me thinking of selling the nsx and getting the elise/exige. I want to build a motor up and tweek it and have fun with it. I can not even begin to do that with an nsx. i was hoping the nsx used a legend block so I could start with that then just move the heads over but from what i understand you can not use the block. the head will not match up.

Understand though that the Elise/Exige are not daily drivers when it comes to the comfort level of an NSX. My co-worker has an Elise and he is looking to get rid of it because of the spartan level and the lack of creature comforts like ice cold AC. He frequents the Lotus forums and has realized that it is not the car for him for the long run. The decibel levels of the engine cause a hearing loss during long uses. He cant even talk on the phone when he is in the car because of it, hence he misses alot of early morning and late afternoon conference calls :) I would suggest getting into the Lotus forums first to hear from the owners. I almost went that route till I borrowed his and realized that it was more on the track car side than the daily driver side. It is an awesome track car though, none better. Most Elise owners would like a NSX, however, they think that the little nuances of the Elise/Exige give it more soul than a NSX.

Unfortunately, LarryB corrected himself in that thread. It is the gasket, not the pan, that is common.

To the OP, the Legend block and NSX block are not the same. STMPO is building a K20-powered NSX race car, but that conversion uses a lot of custom mounting and fitting parts. If you want to build up a C30A while keeping your car on the road, your best bet is to find one from a wreck. You can get them for around $5000.
