My front left tire leaks air like theres no tomorrow. I know its the stem because after a i washed it, i saw the air fizzing out around the stem. I took the car to Firestone in Costa Mesa (CA), but they said they couldn't locate a replacement.

TIA,
Jeff

Huh??? That's like asking where you can get a gallon of milk, because the local supermarket said they couldn't find any.

Any competent tire store, dealer, or independent mechanic should be able to find (!) and install a valve stem for you.

If I'm not mistaken, the stem valve can be tightened. Inside the stem valve, there's that pin you push to release air. Try tightening that pin a little bit to see if it helps.

As for that Firestone dealership, I'd steer away from them. As nsxtasy noted, they should have been able to fix that. They just sound like lazy workers who won't do work unless you're paying for a big purchase.

I had a similar problem with my other car, and went to Just Tires on corner of Jamboree/Irvine Center Dr, the guy had a little needle looking tool that gets inside the valve stem, tightens up the pin, and the leak went away. Took 5 secs

You said "around the stem." Did you mean the base of the stem? If so--On aftermarket rims, you'll have to tighten the "whole" stem from the inside. That means dismounting the tire. But if you are going to dismount it, might as well get a whole new stem.

Hmmm... I thought it was common, but i wasn't sure so I posted my question here. The leak is actually from around the valve, not on the inside. I will check into Just Tires. Thanks!
