Wheel repair recommendations?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendation on places that repair wheels locally? I would rather not ship a rim and would prefer to speak to the person inspecting/fixing the wheel. I have tried the yellowpages but was unable to find a local store. East Bay California preferred, but workmanship is the main concern.

Thanks!

John,

Look at the old threads, Wheels America and Wheel Techniques comes to mind

http://www.wheeltechniques.com/
http://www.fixrim.com/

I've had work done by WheelTechniques and they were ok, it all depends on their workload. Wheels America has larger volume but they sometimes just end up sitting on the wheels for a longer time (I suspect that they sometimes just exchange wheels instead of repairing them..)

Thanks Ken!

I actually purchased your old wheels, or who ever wheels Kenji was using. I hope to keep your legacy alive. (track wheels)

John,

A wheel that has been repaired should be ok for the street but should not be used at the track. The wheel that had a crack probably needs to be replaced.

This is what happened to one of the Forged SSR Integral wheels that I had repaired at WheelTechiques after some stress, a repaired wheel will not not be able to take the same amount of abuse as a new one.

You don't want to have something similar to this happen to a wheel while the car is on the track.

Just my 2cents..

BTW: I had nothing to do with the transaction betweeen you and Kenji, that was between you two.

that is the wheel Ken.

i plan to only use the wheels on the street so i hope that it holds up. if not then i will definitely purchase a new wheel. thanks for the input. my intent was to only reference those wheels about their days on the track because Kenji told me how much abuse they went through and i'm confident that they can still be used. i don't drive the X hard at all and seeing that pic makes me think twice about even considering them for track use again.
