What's the point?

This didn't happen to me exactly this way, but I was wondering what goes through people's heads? Here's the main points of the conversation.

So someone in another unnamed car pulls up and says:
Him "nice car, what year is it?"
Me "It's a 93"
Him "Is it stock?"
Me "It's just got an exhaust & intake"
Him "I've got TT and 400 rwhp, what about yours"
Me "231 rwhp, dynoed last month"
Light is about to turn green
Him "Wanna run?"
Me "Why you got 200 more hp than me?"
Him - Gives me a look of disgust

So if you were him, why would you even want to race?

I think the fact that he supposedly had 400rwhp is the whole point.

He wanted to race you in order to validate the money and effort he spent on getting 400rwhp. Not many better ways of doing so than to "take down" an NSX...

BTW, was it a Supra?

Then again, I have my doubts about hp claims from strangers in the streets. I once had a pair of punks tell me they had *four* (!) turbos under the hood of their econobox!
