I need help choosing a good navagation screen / system that fits well in the SOS navagation pod. looking for a nav that's not the top of the line, but will do the following.. 1. accurate mapping...2. has voice commands that tell to turn on STERRT NAMES (not turn 500 feet ahead etc..). 3. that could possibly be used at a later time as a back up camera screen as well (however not an absolute need). 4. and is easy and economical to update the maps if needed.

any help is appriciated.... i have searched this forum for hours and have not found these answers...

thanks....Dave

I use an Alpine Blackbird and it does what you want. It's a portable GPS that docks inside my glove compartment. It's tied into an Alpine touchscreen in the navigation unit. It's a great system... easy to take out and update the maps, or go hiking with it, or use it in another car. Car Toys put it together for me.

(p.s. just remembering... it may not always say the street names, but it displays the name of the street to turn on)

Hi,

Can you give me all the list of the parts that are needed for this installation? I am really interested. Also, can bluetooth and the OEM radio/CD changer be connected with the unit? Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Just looked through all of my receipts. I could not find them for this setup, and the Alpine touchscreen does not have a model number visible on the front of the unit.

Car Toys used an FM transmitter for the unit, so all of the other audio units operate as stock. There is no Bluetooth with this unit, but I know Car Toys could come up with a solution to this as well.

The Alpine Blackbird GPS also uses an SD card to store music, so I now also have another alternative for nearly unlimited music.

How about a ball park figure on the install?

OK... just called Car Toys for what I spent, since I can't find the receipt.

My total system with install (and some other work, such as new speakers) was $2k. The Alpine screen I used was a TMEM770. They say the equivalent screens (in size) are an IVAW205 for $599, or an IVAW505, which has an ipod interface and other goodies, for $999. I didn't get any other breakouts on costs over the phone.

The work included the Blackbird, dock for the Blackbird, custom work for installing the dock into the glove compartment (very clean!), the screen, FM transmitter, and a little custom work to fit the screen into the JDM nav pod, two new speakers and install, and a little work on the amp I have to eliminate an engine buzz that had been broadcasting on the speakers.
Hope that helps!

cheers,

The W205 and W505 are both double din head units. These are not stand alone touch screen monitors. They will only fit in the nav pod with some serious fab work.

If you are looking for a touch screen alpine monitor, I believe the only ones that were available are the TME-M770 and their latest one the TME-M740BT (this one includes BT option and does accept nav inputs as well). You can look up specs for both on the Alpine website. If you want the M740BT, I know Rich @ Highline has some in stock. Try giving him a PM (he's a member/vendor). As for the M770, ebay will be your best bet. You can also try your luck with ebay for the M740BT as well.
