When I had my NSX, I also had another car that I used for my daily work commute and only drove the NSX on the weekends. My wife and I decided to consolidate cars for purposes of insurance, car payments, etc., so I sold my daily commute and NSX and purchased a 2002 M5 almost a year ago. I have really enjoyed the M5 especially when I step on the gas:biggrin: , but I hate having to put work miles on such a beautiful car just like I would have for my NSX if it was my only car. Plus, we just had our first snowfall and it is not a very snow friendly vessel.

Cars like the NSX, 993 TT, M5, E55, etc. are expected to be pleasure vehicles and those who buy them usually look for the low mileage pristine car. While mine is still a lower mileage vehicle I figured I should probably sell her and get something between that and the daily junker. Any suggestions on a reasonably fast vehicle that is in the 30-45k range? (was thinking Infiniti M35 possibly) Would love to get another 91 NSX and a cheaper work car, but the wife would have a heart attack, so I will have to stick to one car.

The torque of the M5 is addicting so I am not quite sure I want to sell it just yet, but entertaining the idea and thought that I would see what you all thought. Thanks.

Forgive my bluntness, but i've never understood why people sell cars with low-mileage. You should buy and drive a car for yourself - not for the next owner. Don't worry what the next owner wants... enjoy the car for yourself.

As for an alternative, get a 2nd hand TSX (daily driver) and another NSX... that's my hopeless suggestion. :D

Unfortunatley I can only have one car. Also, it doesn't have that low mileage, but I don't want to go too much higher because miles make a bigger difference on a car like that. People want garage queens and tend to overlook anything that has been driven a bit. I have enjoed it, but I think it is time to try something different.

Get a Subaru outback XT wagon and keep the M5.

250HP 19/23MPG 26k-35K Dependeng on how you Feature it... Get an 05 for even less.

You will have Utility, Sportiness, AWD, Dependability.

Guys, I can understand J wanting to get rid of a car that really does not suit his needs.
I would sell it when it is in a condition that gives me the highest resale as well. (Low Miles)

I would not jump into another Highend car until I have found exactly what fits the family best.. Unless you are looking at the M35, I wouldn't even look at the M35.

I am taking it that a SUV is out?

Why not a Nice USED family hauler at 10-15K and keep something sporty?
Still very afordable and filling both needs... Would quite cost you the 10-15K because you are most likely going to loose something on the sale of the M5 (At this time of the Year) I would also get rid of it within the next few months, due to the impending changes within the economy...

The E39 M5 is a wonderful machine that loves to be driven. I would suggest just enjoying the car and not worrying about the mileage. You bought the car for YOU to enjoy right?? So do it!! Who gives a hoot if it is worth a little less when you sell it?? There will ALWAYS be people wanting to but a car like that if it is maintained well and presents well. Would you rather take a couple thousand dollars less at resale and know you had a blast with the car, or spend money on a car you will not be very happy with just for the sake of having a low mileage driver?? To me is makes more sense to drive what you like now and not worry so much about the next owner of your car.

How much did you use the back seats on the M5.

Sporty: IS350, M35, G35, 330i

Non Sporty: Subaru Legacy turbo, Avalon(the Anti M5).

Good luck.

I have a one year old, so we used the back seat quite a bit.

An SUV is not out, but my wife already has an SUV. We are actually considering getting rid of her ML320 SUV to get a Subaru Tribeca SUV. I really loved the way it drove.

I have considered going back to two cars, but the problem is besides the insurance, property tax, and extra payments is that there is nothing, at least that I can think of, that I can get to take the place of the M5 unless I want to spend just as much. In that case, I will not be able to get a second car. To get a second car, I would have to spread the value of the M5 out between two cars. Also, my wife is really against having three cars again.

You can get an RL for $45k. I know it may not be nearly as quick as the M5, but it has SH-AWD and Honda reliability.

I know you want to have just one car but my vote is to keep the M5 and get a cheap daily that you dont mind putting miles on. Otherwise when the weather gets nice again you might be back out looking for something else.

Truncated....

I understood, and pretty much guessed the reasoning.
My Friend has the Tribeca and loves it..
It is pretty sweet.
If that lease deal is still available, $299 36 months, then you just can't beat it... Very nice interior and the power isn't bad at all.

The property Tax is just a mess... I got my bill, now I am going to take out a loan just to pay it.
Again, I fully understand the reasoning.. That is pretty much why I have decided to consolidate some toys..

Keep the Merc.. Or you will take an absolute beating... (JMHO) That is if you have any equity and it's not plauged with service issues.
You have your SUV... Sounds like you are just looking for a 4 door sports car..
Keep in mind Anything with BMW, Porsche,Audi, Lexus, Infinity will net big $$$s on property taxes.. Something about those marks that make them go crazy in Jefferson County. The values that they rate at are ridiculously off.

I hear that, I got my property tax bill for my BMW and wife's Mercedes and my jaw almost hit the floor. Starting to really like the Subi's so may be a good option for a daily driver, but probably still need to sell the M5 because I can't pay for both. I will have to get a cheaper toy, but not sure what.

You can use my chrysler friends and family discount(since your a nsxer in the Lou). 8k off a new Durango, 5500 off a new Cherokee. 6k off a new Pacifica. All chrysler vehicles have BIG incentives right now. It is very hard to beat some off the new domestic vehicle prices. Seriously considering a magnum or caravan for a daily driver.

You can always get a used RL,TL, Maxima for under 20k, with decent miles and a factory warranty.

TL or RL is nice for everyday driver....and maybe you can get a evo for the sport feel...or a used supra or s2000 or rx7.....

maybe camry or accord for everyday car and s2000 for weekend cruiser?

good luck

Get snow tires for the M5 and keep it. You will be glad you did. With the VSC and snow tires, it will handle the snow much better.

If you really want a new vehicle, check out a Toyota Avalon as well as the others mentioned here.

Jeff,

Buy your old nsx back from khappi before he rice it out more  with the lomein wing on his car now it only worth 15-20k.

Go by taste & preference, not by trend or numbers...

I would think outside the bun, err- I mean box...

- Audi A6 S-Line 2.7T Quattro w/ certified warranty {My personal selection}

- Audi S4 4.2L Quattro w/ certified warranty

- Jaguar XJ-R w/ certified warranty

- BMW E46 M3 coupe w/ certified warranty

Acura (sans' NSX), Lexus, Mercedes (non-AMG), and Infiniti lack the unadulterated excitement that you still yearn for.

Also, a 2-3yr old pre-owned vehicle will allow you to escape the nose-bleed depreciation that premium import luxury sports-sedans are usually notorious for.

If you find yourself to be more utilitarian, less bourgeouis...

- Subaru Impreza WRX

- Mitsubishi Evo VIII

- Mazdaspeed6

I would not acquire a brand-new car approaching $45k unless:

* Money isn't an issue at all whatsoever

* Lease (or business related tax writeoff)

* I plan on keeping it for atleast 5-6yrs

* I'm obsessed w/ it, must-have!

Sell me your M5, then buy whatever you can get with the $12k I pay you and be happy.

Seriously, please let me know if you really are going to sell the M5, as I am looking.

Having recently lost my NSX, I have purchased a 2003 BMW M3 to tide me over until the next one. I think it is about the closest thing to an NSX you can buy in a practical car that can be driven year-round, with a back seat and decent trunk. There are lots of 2002-2003 M3s with decent mileage and 100k warranties in the mid-thirties these days.

I do hear that a lot of M3 owners really beat the crap out of their cars and don't want to worry about maintenance issues, but could be a load of bull. I have not heard that about the M5 owners though. It's a moot point in my case because I have never tracked any car that I have ever owned. I guess I am too chicken something will go wrong, blow up, wreck, die, break, burn, urinate on oneself, etc. but that is just me.

Signed-
No balls when it comes to the track:wink: (really I am not that bad.

I'd say that was true. Every single person I've ever known that owned an M3 has driven the piss out of it, up to and including driving into trees while running from the cops to avoid a DUI. They usually drive them hard and then sell them after 2 or 3 years.
