What wheel locks to use?

I finally received my Blitz rims and was wondering whats the best wheel lock to use or what do fellow owners use to protect their investments. On my old BMW I had Macgregors locks and after removed the rims for the winter the key pattern got damaged. I took it to a tire shop and they put the key over the locks and hit it with a heavy hammer and then very easily removed the lock with am impact wrench. So this means a similar pattern key will be able to open some locks.

So what locks should I get?

I have had no problems with the Acura ones and the dealers always have a key!

Some wheels like my Forgelines have an additional cover/lock bolt - but I am not as familiar with yours to know if they offer one.

If the dealer has a key doesn't that mean that other Acura owners have a key.

BTW my NSX stock wheels didn't come with any lock nuts. Have mine been changed to regular lugs.

What type of lug nut does Blitz use? Cone, acorn, or acorn bulge? The factory lock is from Mcguard, Gorilla also makes wheel locks, or ask the store you got the Blitz from.

Yes but a key is not a serious deterent. A good car theif will steel your car and strip it where no one will find it. A wheel lock will only keep a rookie off your wheels IMO.

More often then not you forget, loose, or the dealer can't find the key. Or worse, the key is in the car in an obvious place that anyone can find.

This is a key question (no pun intended). It's important to use lug nuts, and wheel locks, in which the seating surface matches the seating surface of the wheel. The stock NSX wheels and lug nuts use a spherical (acorn) shaped seating surface. Most aftermarket wheels use a conical (tapered) shaped seating surface, and need lug nuts to match. Make sure you get wheel locks (and lug nuts) whose seating surface matches that of the wheels.

You would think that an $89K NSX would come with wheel locks. Wrong..............I had to shame the dealer into including them.
My $30K 2003 CL even came with remote entry.

I'll call Blitz today and ask them what they reccommend.

Thanks for the info.

I agree with Matteni-a good thief will take just about everything on your car...I just use a normal Mcgard wheel lock, I take care of where I leave the car for extended periods of time...also try covering the car when parked in public will help your piece of mind..

i use a spline drive type lug nut which in my opinion is harder to get around and take off .... most of the key type can be taken off by just a ratchet extension which i witnessed last nite ...remember a thief only needs to get them off he isnt concerned about putting them back on.

Blitz reccommends a conical tapered type lug nut. I guess I'll to and pick those up and see what type of locks are avail.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Is there a wheel lock available that works with both regular and extended-length wheel bolts ??

I have longer (ARP) lug-bolts on my front hubs (long story -- due to brake kit/wheel offset fitment problems), and the OEM locks do not work with these longer bolts. I have the OEM lug-bolts on the rear.

I'm running the gorilla system lock kit (I have the black lug nuts). There is always a way to take a wheel lock off, but with mine, they need to deal with 20 locking lugs, not just four...and they use the same key.

Well if your lugs are the ALLEN key type.... try putting a 3/8 ratchet extension into the lug hole and turning it in most cases it will catch and take off the lugs with no problem as someone showed me a few days ago .
