What type of oil for track?

I just changed my oil over the weekend with Castrol 10w30. Someone here just told me I should use nothing but synthetic at the track. I'm sure this issue has been discussed many times, but any comments?

Asking about oil is like asking about religion. In a nutshell: Those who favor synthetic tout its easier flow characteristics when cold and its greater resistance to breakdown when very hot. Those who favor conventional oil say it's not worth the extra cost. FWIW, I use synthetic oil in all my cars.

However, assuming you're asking advice specifically for this weekend... with predicted high temperatures in the upper fifties, overheating is not likely to be a problem. Just leave the conventional oil in there, and don't give it a second thought.

(I doubt that overheating is a problem for NSX's even on a hot day. But I DO use synthetic anyway.)

Whatever it is you use, and either should be fine (just match the weight/flow to the ambient conditions), suggest you:
a) bring an extra quart just in case
b) watch your oil pressure gauge every now and then
c) check your oil levels at least 2x a day, if not in-between every run group

FWIW, I use Mobil 1 synthetic on all my vehicles.
