It time to change my coolant. I was wondering what type of coolant are you guys using? Honda OEM or something else? Thanks.

had good luck with the red extended life + waterwetter.

btw briank

how much will it cost to fix a climate cluster? are the welds just usually off? or something needs to be replaced?

Problem right now is the customer does not power on and it is not the wiring to the custer. thx

The last time I changed mine, probably 70 or 90k miles ago, I used the plain old brand from the parts store that said "for Hondas" on it. I experienced no problems so far.

Tonight, I am completing my coolant hose change project and I have purchased Honda coolant (pre-mixed) from the dealer. No particular reason why.

I do the same with oil filters. Usually I go the OEM route but I have used Fram or whatever else would fit on occasion.
YMMV

Put your flame suit on. You should never use Fram oil filters on your NSX. Do some searching on here for failures using them.

OEM Coolant is what you should use too.

The OEM coolant is SO expensive. It was $25 for two gallons and you need 4.

Quit yer bitchin'. The Neo coolant is $25/gal. Recommended by Jon Martin. If you had searched you would have seen this has come up several times before.

Yeah I hear ya. I just needed a little bit when I painted my coolant bottle. (since the coolant had been replaced recently).

You might look around at the various Honda and Acura dealers around KC. My local Acura dealer wanted $25 too but found the same thing at another dealer for $17. Still worth it vs having internal failures from using something "cheap".

I know the consensus here is that NSX's are bullet proof, but if you aren't changing your coolant at LEAST every 3 years if you are putting any miles on it you are doing a dis-service to it IMO. Every 4 years if it's a garage queen is probably excusable as coolants have advanced, but 70-90k miles? In how many years?!?

You can cause a lot of heating system head aches as well as unnecessary build-up in the engine coolant passages and radiator by not changing your radiator fluid enough. I don't have the manual off-hand but as the car ages and is driven less and less annually you need to adjust your maint. time line.

If you don't do anything but normal street driving, oem coolant is suitable. If you want that extra bit of cooling there are several options out there. Regarding my cars, oem stuff and a little water wetter is usually what I use. For my sport bikes, I use super water wetter only; which means come winter you do need to add anti-freeze. I used to use only distilled water and just recently started using water wetter at all.

I have to dissagree; VW, Porsche, Audi, that I know of state that the coolant will last the life of the car, and advise no changes. I don't think Honda's coolant is in any way inferior. We will all be changing hoses at some point, and including a new water pump with TB change, so the coolant will get changed occasionally, and that should be adaquet.

Yes they only sell Type II which is ready to use premixed with distilled water.

Brian,
Do you know if the Type II coolant is used on all Honda and Acura vehicles? I have always used Prestone on my other cars.
