What to look for?

Newbie here needs help. I am considering a mid 90's car would like a targa top after that I have no idea what to look for. When did the targa model start? What is a Snap Ring that seems to break? Any help will greatly be appreciated.

1995 was the first year for the targa.1991 & 1992 was the only years with the snap ring issue.It's a piece in the transmission than can break.You can tell by the trans serial number if it is in the snap ring range.Not sure about the numbers but I think it can be found in the FAQ

Mid 90's should be way out of snap ring range. Go for the 6 speed.
