What to do when you think you're having a bad day.

WTF.... Thanks for the cheerful post Hugh, I definitely feel better now.

"That sounds unbearable. It really makes me paws for thought. The feeling of knowing you'd never see your family again would be absolutely grizzly. I really do hope the hunters had the right to bear arms though, I wouldn't want them using cubs."

I am sure every one will be mad for me saying this but humans kill bears just for fun. Why is it that when a bear kills a human it's so awful but when humans kill mother bears with the cubs next to them it's ok.

Nope, thought the same thing...

I'll take a crack at this one although I see what you are saying. I think it has to do with how close your relation is to the subjects in question. For example if "YOU" had a child and some guy was punching it's face in for fun. You obviously would be extremely mad and probably retaliate against said person because your level of relation between the child is much closer and personal compared to the stranger. You wouldn't shrug it off and be like that's cool man it's okay just keep doing that to my child.

Situation two humans getting attacked by bears. Now in this case your relation to the humans and the bears would seem equal because you don't really know either of them. In reality though you deal with humans everyday, you work with them, you grew up with humans, and you are in a society where it's almost impossible not to have to interact with a human. You can relate in a more personal/biological level if a human is getting killed vs a bear getting killed because you can relate more to them.

I'm pretty certain if the situation was a family dogs being attacked/killed by a random human or bear it would still yield the same mental viewpoint. The bear/human would be on the bad side of things and the dog is on the good.

Either way that's my attempt to explain your question. You can disagree but I'll agree to disagree :D.

FWIW, my old roommates girlfriend back from our late teen years was killed by a bear. Problem was she and her husband were dumb enough to raise and keep wild animals and treat them like pets. She went into his cage to clean it and the bear attacked her. I just think back to when we were 18 and imagine some guy claiming to be from the future telling her parents 'one day, your teenage daughter will die in her 30s from a bear attack'. You'd have to call the guy nuts!! So sad. Her kids apparently witnessed it as well.

That depends who you ask. I'm against killing any animal for sport. Certain species of bear have recently been hunted to extinction and I find that a damn shame. As far as I know, only the Inuit eat bear as their primary food source.

Often, if a wild animal, such as a bear or mountain lion, attacks or kills a human, they are often put down since the likelihood of them attacking another human is much higher than the average animal. They look at humans as a source of food, rather than something to be afraid of.

I have no problem with people hunting for food. Hunting for the sake of killing something is just wrong.

Bears should just relax more in pools instead and not eat people.
