What kind of HID bulbs do the 2002 Headlights Use?

I am going to convert my 95 NSX-T with 2002 NSX Headlights and the hood. I dont want to buy the HID unit from Acura, since I can get the Philips units cheaper. Which system does the NSX use? Is it still 9006 for the 2002 NSX's? Anyone know if the Science Of Speed HID system will work?

9006 is a designation for an incandescent bulb, and has nothing to do with the HID system on the 2002.

Try asking Chris about his SoS system.

However, if I were getting the 2002 front end, I would get the stock unit, even if it cost more than an aftermarket one; I'd rather use something that I already know fits perfectly rather than worrying about fabricating something to jerryrig a unit that's not designed for my particular application. After all, you're not putting the 2002 front end on because it's cheaper than leaving the car alone; as long as you're willing to spend for it, why not make sure it's perfect?

What does it actually take to convert a old style nsx light to the new style ?... is it necessary to change the hood or can u just swap the light housing ?

sure would be nice if they were just drop in, but no, you need a new hood. take a close look at the lights on a 2002. the lights are mostly rectangular shaped pre-2002 and the hood follows that line with pretty much 90 degree angles. the new lights are angled, thus...... new hood

You need a new hood, and front bumper.
For the bumper, you can get the new 2002 front bumper or get a fiberglass aftermarket bumper and have a shop remold it to fit the 2002 headlights. Also it requires some modification to the headlight bucket.

The 2002 OEM lights use a somewhat proprietary base and connector. It may be possible to develop a kit for it, but it would not be plug and play.

The 2002 front end also requires significant reword of the headlight cavity including having to cut part of the structure around it. You will also need new brackets for the front headlight and radiator support. Using factory parts, expect to pay about $6500 for the complete kit including HID.

9006 is more for the base profile and connector of the bulb rather than the type of bulb. HID bulbs still use the Halogen base and connector designation.

I believe that the designation is for the entire bulb, rather than simply the base and connector. For example, I think the 9006 bulb spec includes the shape and dimensions of the glass bulb as well as the positioning of the filament (so that it aligns with reflectors built to work with that size bulb).
