I know the previous NSX varied around 160-168mph. Could the improved aerodynamics of the 02+ bumpers make it past 170?
Yes. According to all the press reports, the top speed of the six-speed '02+ NSX is 175 mph, 7 mph faster than the earlier cars, with the difference attributed to the aerodynamics.gtr said:I know the previous NSX varied around 160-168mph. I assume that Honda's specification for top speed is the speed the car would attain with a suitably long straightaway, such as on the 7.5-mile test track at TRC, next to the Honda assembly plants in Ohio. Cars wouldn't usually reach their top speed on the racetracks that are typically featured in the Best Motoring videos.gtr said:I believe that is faster than the NSX-R tested by best motoring. I gotta look back on that video and and confirm the speed.

So yes, all areodynamics. The 1997+ has enough gearing to go 202mph..but it can't.
I know this is off topic, but does that mean that adding a CTSC/turbo,etc. will have NO EFFECT on top speed? (I figure that the extra hp should push up the top speed a LITTLE!
nicholas421 said:if you are redlining at top speed, extra hp will not matter.
The top speeds on all nsx's, including 02+ models, are limited by wind resistance, not gearing. Therefore, more hp = higher top speed.
We drove our cars at TRC during NSXPO '98, where the photo below was taken. Just not on the big 7.5-mile test track. :frown:gtr said:Perhaps we can test out our cars at TRC during NSXPO2007 driver's school
The NSX speedometer is generally pretty accurate. However, there are a lot of variables that can affect speedometer accuracy. For example, the difference between brand new tires and ones that are worn down to the treadwear bars is about 2 percent.S2NSX said:Is the speedo as accurate as it reads?

I think both are true; the 168/175 mph are the top speed with the stock horsepower, and a higher horsepower can push the mass along faster and overcome more drag force at a higher speed.Bigglezworth said:Does anyone know if this is driven by the stock horsepower or whether a higher horsepower engine can push the mass along that much faster?
