I have 1086, It was originally bought in Nov. 1990. It must be one of the oldest in the US. I think that the lower vins must have stayed in Japan.

Does anyone know of an older one?

Going back to my NSX Driver issues (Spring 2001 - "10 Years After"), the earliest known US NSX is #000085 originally purchased new in North Carolina. Delivery was taken in September 1990.

A friend of mine has a '91 VIN around #330-335. That's the lowest I've seen in person for a '91.

Just to clarify - that VIN (MT000085) is the earliest one reported by a member of the NSX Club of America, and is owned by a club member who is also a member of the e-mail lists and lives in Georgia. Other low VINs owned by club members include MT000092, MT000094, and MT000098 (hi nik3sgte ;) ). The cars with VINs from MT000063 through MT000084 are probably still out there, but their owners have not joined the club or have not reported their VIN when joining.

MT001086 was built about a third of the way through the 1991 model year run, which means it's not even in the first 10 percent of all NSXs that have been sold here.

Not Me!

No, I have an early car (made in September of 1990) but it's a Canadian model with VIN 800134. The 8 means Canadian market spec (metric instruments, daytime running lights, etc.)

They use 8 for Canada because they thought the Canadians say that number at the end of every sentence. I guess they mis-heard slightly. :D

Yes, being originally from NE Wisconsin, I do remember that no matter what the subject or tone of the discussion, every sentence is a question up north, eh?

NSXtasy, does this mean technically my car MT000098 is the 35th to be built for our shores???

I read some years ago that the first car ever built (either vin 0001, or a prototype) was in the US and due to some governmental regulation had to either be scrapped or sent out of the US. Honda Japan did not want or have a place for the car, so the fate seemed doomed for this car. I never heard what happened to it- Does anyone know?

Two of the first cars (003 and 005) to come here were for photos only. They had a different engine and no hatch or partition glass so the interior could be photographed.

They were both loaded into a dumpster and taken to the recycler. They were both ripped apart. It is quite common to destroy early cars because they are in this country on a bond and there is very little value for them.

One of these cars was driven over 100 MPH and when one of the factory team heard, their face went white. They said:"These cars are not good to go fast".

I have # 85...

I have # 85. It has a manufacture date of 6/90. It is a red/black 5 speed and now has 40K mi.

I saw #79 for sale a couple of years ago and contacted the guy. He had homes in TN and FL... said his wife had driven the car mostly and it was in FL (probably sold there).

That's the only NA "production" car (post #63) that I have knowlege of that is older than mine.

Woodwork's comments about # 5 are corroberated (as if they need to be) if you look in the original sales brochure (the aluminum and black book), it shows interior shots of a car, including the side sill with MT000005. The switchgear and some other things in the interior are very crude (pre-production).

I also recall a thread about NSX Fiesta in Japan where someone said # 1 was parked in the lobby of the NSX factory. Don't know if that was MT000001 or not.

Also, in talking with the RealTime Racing guys several years ago, they seemed to think that they had # 4 and # 7 as their racecars.
