What is the correct gap for the A/C clutch kit?

What's the proper shim distance for the A/C compressor on a 92 NSX (old style)? I've got the stator and bottom half of the clutch installed; I just need to know the proper gap between the two pieces of the clutch before I button everything back up.

Right now, with the old shim, I'm at about 12/1000ths of a gap; using the three shims that came with the clutch kit, I'm far too low (there's still friction when you spin the clutch, no noticeable gap).

What's the proper gap? And would it be safe to try and polish down the old shim to fit, if I need a smaller gap?

TIA!!!

Correct A/C Clutch Shim

Hello. We set these A/C clutch gaps to .016"-.018" usually. As the temperature rises the gap will widen slightly and reduce your dragging. We see failure to engage occur around .026"-.028" so avoid shimming to this degree. If it drags slightly now it is of little concern (unless it drags heavily), as it will wear slightly and clear in short order. Try to get it not to drag obviously, but I have seen this before and within a few minutes of run time there was no further rubbing.

Good luck.

Chris.
