What is the best non-deep cycle battery?

I am using what was formerly called the Black Panther and is now called the Odyssey. It's been great. As I recall, there were numerous advantages over the Optima (the engineers who designed it had left the Optima company in order to "build a better battery). You can read more about it on the Odyssey website here.

Sounds like something that might work well in my boat. Thanks nsxtasy.

Boats are actually the original use for the onboard battery charger I've been using for my NSX. In fact, I bought it from Bass-Pro! (I guess that's like getting a rod and reel from Dali Racing.)

Anyway, if you don't already have a charger for your boat, you might want to look into getting one of those, too.

Thanks guys for the suggestions; however, aren't these deep cycle batteries? I only drive my car a coulpe thousand miles a year and it sits the majority of the time so I didn't want a deep cylce battery. Thanks

From their web: The ODYSSEY® battery combines in one box the characteristics of two separate batteries. It can deep cycle as well as provide enormous cranking power — it is almost as if a champion long distance runner and a world class sprinter are one and the same person.

Additionally, the characteristics of this battery, assuming their claims hold true, would be a perfect fit for the application you describe. They mention that the battery can be stored for two years without the need for charging. That is what excites me about using it in a marine application. Not only does a boat have the need for both deep cycle and cranking, but also the batteries sit for prolonged periods of time (winter).

In my experience, these batteries cannot sit for extended periods of time without charging (despite their claims to the contrary).

Maybe "storage" that they refer to, and sitting idly are two different issues? At any rate, I realize that many times claim vs realities don't add-up.
