Can anyone tell me purpose and why is it not part of VIN or engine number? 
What is Engine Cover "number" for?

That reflects that the car was the 275th production NSX built
The VIN # resets every year to 0001
The VIN # is specific for country/region
For example my VIN# is 171 and Serial # is 243
When my car was built, about 2/3 of all production was going to the US

Any idea why it was not "synced" with engine or vin? Also any idea to total production world wide?

They want the serial # to run through the entire production
Ex if you get a 2020 it may be in the 5000s

I was just thinking it would have been nice to have it sync'd with engine number....JM2C...I could be wrong..
