Okay so I was driving down the highway and it was raining, someone cut me off and I tried to avoid him and hydroplaned. Couldn't get control and went into the ditch. What is your previous experience when an adjustor came to look at it on how they valued it. If they total it what do value did you use to get an accurate value? Idk if mine is totaled but there is a really good chance I think that it is. There was a lot of water in the ditch and the water was high. The water came into the cabin and filled up all the way to the middle of the glove box. image.jpgimage.jpg

I am not qualified to comment on the insurance angle but if I

were unable to get full value for the car and they settled with me letting me keep the car for a nominal value, I would try and part it out (with appropriate caveats of course). Seems like you can salvage quite a bit if properly addressed before rust or corrosion sets in.

Just my two cents and worth what you paid. ;)

BTW, sorry for the auto loss. That is simply a shame.

A small point but if your rear tires are almost bald, the insurance company may give you a hard time.
If your tires are wider than stock it's easier to hydroplane than narrower tires.
Rear weight biased cars like Ferrari ,Porsche ,and our NSX,s are known to hydroplane if the rear tires are too worn to allow the water to be pushed aside by the tire.
If you have receipts for newer tires it would help.
Hydroplaning has come up on Prime before.

they will total it. they will give you a check for the car. then buy it back from them for about 9-10K ( they take it out of the check they send you )
get it fixed and keep driving, or part it out.. but time is the key here to save everything you need to strip the car to the bone fast. wire harness etc. needs to come off let it sit in the sun bake it dry it all out. put back together.

I paid less than $7k for the remains of mine.
Since the accident was the other guys fault, I was able to go after his insurance company to make me "whole" (value wise)...and I did okay.

OMG, RIP.. That poor NSX..

Hard to look at, sorry for your loss. Try to get it and strip it asap and let it sit in the sun or maybe those ovens they stick cars in after painting? My dad had an Acura Legend that went completely under water, all he did was strip the interior and let it sit in the sun with the windows down & sunroof open for like a week. Car ran fine for years and ended up being my first car...

That's interesting! I wonder if there's a bowl large enough for the NSX, and just fill it with dry rice... :D

(or silica)

Dang, thats such a nice car... its hard to see it half submerged like that. Sorry to read this.

I would do some research and show the insurance company what these cars are selling for to get the valuation right.

Just take off the targa top and fill her up :)

They'll total it out and pay you based on replacement cost and your exact policy- comp/coll deductible etc. most cars now they deduct for wear and tear, and attach comparable cars for sale when determine what to pay you. Then listed to Shawn and buy it back for .20 on the dollar, they'll let you have it for whatever they think they may get at auction - where people like me bid on them. You can see what they paid out when they auction it off to dealers and it's usually pretty high for Nsx. Also comp sales on auto trader (which I've seen then then go by) are listed very high for the most part. Best of luck to you !
