Please don't flame me for being somewhat off-topic but I would really the opinion of other NSX owners. My girlfriend is considering a 96-98 240SX for her next car. She wants something sporty yet practical (actually she wants a full blown sports car, but can't quite afford that yet) I suggested the 240Z since it's rear wheel drive and 4 cylinder. Question is, how good are they? Are they reliable? Do they perform well for the money? Are they junk? I figure some of the group does or has owned them and who better to judge a car based on reliablity/performance than fellow NSX owners. She is also considering the Accord 2 door and the Prelude, but they are FWD which isn't quite as sporty in my eyes. Any helpful comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Will

I don't think you mean the 240Z, they stopped making them in the 70's. You're probably referring to the 240SX. They are fun cars, but my experience with them is that they are terrible in the rain. They aren't as reliable as a Honda though. I personally think that a Prelude is a better choice.

If you can find an Prelude SH, I would jump all over it. They are awesome cars, and have better performance than the 240SX and much more reliaable.

I love the 95+ 240sx. I also love the old 240Z and especially the 510's. But you are talking about the new 240sx, right? It's a great car for the money. People commonly swap in the SR20DET motor (JDM). It can be quite fast and handle well. But the stock KA24 motor isn't too exciting w/o a turbo.

Have you/her look into the the '90 (or up) 300zx TT...They are rear wheel drive/decent/sporty/ fun...Oh and did I mention they are fast too !!
You'll be surprise if you drive a slightly modded 300zx twin turbo !!!

Actually, she wanted to get a 300Z or a 94-95 Trans Am, but the insurance and gas mileage for either car is not very economical.

How's that saying go !!! You have to pay if you want to play !!! j/k

Anyway, going back to your 240sx question. My (teen) cousin bought a '98 240SX a while ago, and its seem to be quite reliable so far. The car does look very decent with about 85K miles on it...and it still pulling strong for it class. If possible, find one with the least mileage on it, and make sure you run car fax too !!!! Other than that, I would say go for it...She'll be happy!

Man I got excited when I saw the title of this thread. My first car was a 4 year old 1971 240Z, Silver w/Black, racing stripe, Krager mags, louver, man did I think I was cool when I was a Junior in High School!

My parents were pretty smart though when you think about it. Looking back I would have been much happier with a van, but that's a different story.

I guess you never forget your first time, and I have to say that I had more than one first in that car; Ticket, Kiss, Spin,etc.. well you get the picture I don't need to go any further!

Cheers
