what color should I paint my calipers?

I have a red nsx....what color should I paint my calipers? I was thinking of red but my car is red. maybe black? what do you guys think? anybody have pics of a red nsx with red calipers or with black ones for me to compare? thanks!
 
It basically comes down to one questions:
<B>do you want your calipers to be attention-grabbers?</B>

If not, black or silver is the way to go. These are the 'safe' colors.
If you do want them to get attention, then red or copper is awesome... but that also depends on the rims you have (if they are aggressive styling)

i've attached a picture with HDSR5's beautiful car w/ black calipers.
The one below is a convertable-NSX with red... not the best photo or example, but it should give you an idea. If you go red, try to match the paint with your car's red... otherwise it can look a bit adhoc.

hahaha.... that would get the attention of F&F2 Directors maybe! :D

i'm not even gonna touch a photoshop job of that... i'd consider that an act of NSX-vandalism. ;)
 
It's obviously a matter of personal taste. I often see stock calipers painted all kinds of wild colors on "modified cars". And usually it's the smaller the calipers the louder the color. Furthermore, when these colors are combined with lacy aftermarket rims, it just highlights how small the stock brakes really are. I even saw a Civic the other day with fly yellow rear brake drums!

IMHO, if you have stock brakes, leave them stock. However, if you have large aftermarket brakes, I'd opt for black everytime. Understated elegance rarely goes out of style.

Reminds me of another saying... "Simplicity is beauty in itself"
that makes me think of the NSX everytime...
 
I have a 92 red NSX with highly polished new style (94+) 7 spoke factory rims and I recently painted the calipers red. Haven't done anything to the "NSX" letters yet though, but silver or black lettering seems to be the accent of choice for many. Bought the paint from tire rack and had 4-5 coats put on on each caliper and hanger. I had my local service shop do it when I replaced the brakes. I haven't had any problems with peeling or chipping, but I don't track my car. I have seen some posts here recently about powder coating vs. painting but there are pros and cons to each approach. The powdercoating was about $450 on an exchange basis if I remember correctly. The paint is about $50 to your door. Dali Racing has the paint as well for about the same price. I have recieved nothing but compliments from several people about the caliper color. However, I agree with NeoNSX that the black looks great on the first red car he posted.

I am happy with the look. I do agree that understated elegance rarely goes out of style, by bold individuality is something that I believe many of us on prime cherish. Otherwise, we wouldn't even be talking about painting brake parts :D

Did you ever do this? If so, whose paint did you use? Does the red on the calipers somewhat match the color of your car?

I have a Red 95 and am considering the Dali red paint kit. I've seen red cars with orangish calipers, I'd rather not have that look.

I know it can be difficult to color match a red car with red calipers, but I think we should be able to get closer to the car's color than orange.

Anyone else have any experience with Dali's red kit on a red car? What results? Do you recommend it? If not, whose paint do you recommend and what color code did you use? Anyone with a red car who painted their calipers red who wishes they would have gone with a different color? If so, what color?
 
I started out using the two-part epoxy type paint & it does not finish well IMO, with the brush application - I also think it has an orange hue.
I switched to VHT brake caliper & drum spray paint, obtainable at many performance shops or internet sources - good for 900 deg C is claimed. The colour match to red looks pretty good, I think.
It finishes really well too, being a spray - I removed my calipers completely. You can clamp the brake hose (if still rubber) with a pair of vize-grips to stop fluid running all over the floor! Then I masked off the areas I didn't want painted & "saddled" the calipers over a 2" x4" to paint.
Take the opportunity to replace the stock bleed-nipples with speed-bleeders to aid in the finally step.

I have a black NSX, but I painted the calipers and 2003 rear lip red to off-set the rest of the car. It is really catchy!

Go Red.........it looks best IMO. It does draw attention to the wheels, too. FWIW, I'm running the Movit kit up front, and the Tarox rotor on the rear with stock caliper.

You might want to consider gold as well. Look really good on my friend's red NSX.
 
Any color you choose, make the NSX-letters in a different color. That adds some "understated elegance" to the wheels. I.e. first you see the rims, then the eye catch the caliper and finally you can sort out the letters on them.
