What are my options on my transmission issues?

A little background - I feel pretty confident that my clutch will be going sometime relatively soon. There is about 65k since the OEM clutch was last changed. So, when I do the clutch, I'm going to do some transmission work too. Currently my transmission is pretty "notchy" when shifting, has 111k miles on it (lots of track miles), 2nd to 3rd grind at high RPM and difficulty getting into reverse sometimes. I'd like to get JDM gears and NSX-R R&P put in as well as replace any needed synchros etc to get my car in good working order. So, what I want to know is does it make more sense to: A)get the parts($1900 + other needed bits + labor) and have my tech rebuild my transmission or B) do a core exchange with a SOS rebuild that has all the parts in it for $3500?

may i also suggest to get new shift cables, they stretch out at about that mileage, since your doing every thing else.

SaberX,

There are three things to consider for make your decision: cost, skill level, and downtime.

So the question is does your local tech have experience at this type of rebuild? If the answer is YES, take that out of the decision process.

What is the TOTAL cost comparison? Do a tally INCLUDING shipping costs, core charges, etc. vs. local rebuild.

Downtime depends on many things, so look at the entire situation in regard to your local techs availability fior swapout vs. local rebuild, and most importantly, does it matter to you:).
