i went there today, they did a oil leak down test/diagnostic?

there were 2 leaks

they said the valve cover leak is $340 something

and the cam plugs

were $450 something

plus an front alignment (cause of new shocks)

all came a grand total of $906

seem about right?

comments please

thanks,
Greg

>>they said the valve cover leak is $340 something

This seems high (the others seem about right). Are they replacing a cracked valve cover? Or is it just new gaskets and labor? The latter should not be over $200 IMO.

I had one red flag with my car before I bought it. (It was fixed to my satisfaction, otherwise I would not have purchased it). The problem was a leaking valve cover gasket. Replacing both gaskets and a valve adjustment was $660. So $340 is not a high estimate IMO.

KGB - Gowki did not mention a valve adjustment. The cost of the gaskets is around $60 and I'd guess an hour max to install them. Even at $80/hour labor that only adds up to $140 - far from the amount Gowki was quoted.

Have to agree with Soichiro on this. Also if you are paying for the Cam Plugs, there should be no charge for labor for VC gaskets, just the cost of the gasket should be added. They are doing the work anyway:rolleyes:

ok guys

valve cover gasket

parts and labor : $388.45

4 cam plugs

parts and labor: $480.33

Alignment $59.95

I do not know how they got $908
cause i added $928
unless I heard wrong..

oh well, more money out of my wallet :(

ok now the guy gave me a new price he charged me $863.77

why i don't know why..

well got everything done, when i got it back, they drove 32 miles for testing and getting the oil to flow around, do that sound about right?

What people are trying to say is that you have been charged for the same labor twice. Doing the cam plugs requires that the valve covers come off anyway, so to charge you separately for that is double dipping. (except perhaps a bit of cleanup for the new gaskets.) However, it is not impossible that they reduced the cam plug labor to offset that overlap of work. But that means something like 7-8 hours labor for cam plugs, which sounds high.

I'm thinking you probably over paid, but don't assume the worst, call another dealer for a quote on exactly the same work.

i had the valve cover gaskets changed and it was 2hrs. labor i think.

i had the following done:

install clutch/flywheel, install headers and new O2sensor, change tranny fluid, install cam seal plugs, valve cover gaskets, oil change, adjust steering wheel, and some other things that escape me at the moment.

my total bill was $1800+

*but i did include all of the parts except the O2 sensor.

Greg,

Did you type an error in one of those numbers? Because the labor charges in your post add up to $420.93 but you are showing the total as $720.93...

i got 477.72 in parts

and i guess the rest in labor?

i have no idea the prices i put up there are just the parts and im trying to figure out the labor..

want me to scan the reciept?

he said he seperated all the prices and parts because if there is still a problem, they can warranty it

Here's what I added for the labor amounts:

AV2 thrust angle alignment
3598 CPR 49.95
AV22 adjust rear wheels
3598 CPR 10.00
Cust request to replace valve cover gaskets
3598 CPR 281.99
1000 replace cam plugs
3598 CPR 78.99

49.95+10.00+281.99+78.99 = 420.93

Is there an error in one of those amounts? Or perhaps THEY added the number wrong? (Usually a computer does the adding though.)

I'm not sure how you got 477.72 in parts.

Sure, if it's not clear why the numbers don't add up, scan the receipt. (Feel free to fold it so your name/address/phone don't show.)
