i need to explain the background to this story for it to make sense. so bear with me.

I enjoy Law & Order : SVU and i was looking up the crew's filmographies a couple of weeks ago when i stumbled across the website of Mariska Hargitay - she plays the character of Oliva Benson. See pix to refresh your memory:

On her website was an email address you could contact, and for some crazy reason i wrote to her a typical fan email -- "love the show, us Aussie's down-under also love the show, if you really get this please pass on a greeting to the rest of the crew, Congratulations on your engagement, regards Neo." I know writing that kind of fan mail is really stupid but for some reason i did it. Anyway.... today i got a REPLY!?!?!

G'day Mike.
Thanks so much for writing. I'm flattered to hear how much you like the show. I, too, think the writers are brilliant!
I will definitely let Chris and the rest of the crew know how much we're loved in Aussie. Thanks for representing.
Guess what? I got married this past summer and love married life.
Thanks for the warm wishes.
God bless,
Mariska

Ok ok ok... two questions for all the experts who visit NSX Prime:
1) Do you think she actually wrote it herself???
2) Anybody other than myself notice the bit about Aussie??? Is this a common mistake made by Americans? :p :D
3) Anybody actually care?

Woohoo!
I'm 20% of the vote right now!
Sorry dude. I don't think she wrote it.

"Guess what? I got married this past summer and love married life."
Seems like an odd thing to write to a complete stanger.

or... are you a stanger?
been following her around? tracking her movements?
reading a lot of "People Magazine"???

x-mas down-under

Neo, this was fwd'd to me from one of my down-under hunnies...

A little Christmas cheer for all from the Australian Bureau of Statistics

-31 Australians have died since 1996 by watering their Christmas tree while the fairy lights were plugged in.

-19 Australians have died in the last 3 years by eating Christmas decorations they believed were chocolate.

-Hospitals reported 4 broken arms last year after cracker pulling incidents.

-101 Australians since 1997 have had to have broken parts of plastic toys pulled out of the soles of their feet.

-18 Australians had serious burns in 1998 trying on a new jumper with a lit cigarette in their mouth.

-A massive 543 Australians were admitted to casualty in the last two years after opening bottles of beer with their teeth or eye socket.

-5 Australians were injured last year in accidents involving out of control scalextric cars.

-3 Australians die each year testing if a 9V battery works on their tongue.

-142 Australians were injured in 1998 by not removing all the pins from new shirts.

-58 Australians are injured each year by using sharp knives instead of screwdrivers.

and finally:

*8 Australians cracked their skull in 1997 after falling asleep (passing out) while throwing up into the toilet.

YEP! its great to be Australian!

After Neo's first post in this thread, and Osiris his sum-up, will Neo ever be taken serious again.....?

Is this even possible? I personally have tested 9v batteries this way in the past

Yeah, I've done that too.... a number of times. The first time was just to see what would happen. The subsequent times were just coz I thought it felt pretty good. :D ...... Maybe THAT's why I'm the way I am.

Obviously I don't know this person, but she doesn't strike me as someone who would use a phrase like "Thanks for representing". That's more of a young and urban thing to say, not something that a 40-year old actress would try to pull off, without sounding like a poser.

My guess would be that she has one or more younger assistants answer her emails.

The option "Who Cares? Reserved for Andy" cracks me up.

I say it's the real deal. Even my father uses the word "representin'." And grandparents know it's meaning. Or maybe I just have a hip family with maD LinGO skIllZ, y0!

I remember when the news broke about her mother's death. Being the back seat would be traumatic enough for anyone, let alone a three year old girl. Can you imagine? (She now has no memory of the event, other than a scar.)

Anyway, I'm sure she would rather that folks think about her career and abilities rather than her childhood and parents...

Those statistics are mostly caused from our blonde population... :D

I still don't know if Mariska really sent it. The truth be known I'm probably a bigger fan (if i'd class myself a fan?) of Chris, the guy who plays Elliot. But I still think she's a very competent actress.

gheba_nsx : LOL, if i were a stalker, her reply might suggest otherwise. It could be "a sign". :p Apparently she's married to another actor who sometimes appears in L&O:SVU as a District Attorney.

NSXTASY : Did her mother really die? How? Funny, in the TV series it says her mother died and it's sometimes referenced again in later episodes; which is cool. The characters have a history.

Casper91 : like you, i'm not sure she wrote it either. "we're loved in Aussie?" ... it's Australia... but then again her written English could be terrible? And no... i don't track her or read gossip magazines... i do enough of that on Prime. :D

Mariska's mother was Jayne Mansfield. The name might not be well known today, but in the late fifties and early sixties, she was a movie star and was considered a "blonde bombshell" along with Marilyn Monroe. In June, 1967, she was killed (decapitated, I believe) along with her boyfriend in an automobile accident. Her three children, who were riding in the back seat, survived.

Mariska's father, Mickey Hargitay (from whom Jayne divorced later in 1964, the year Mariska was born) is also an actor, now retired.

The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) is an excellent website for looking up credits and other information about those in the entertainment world.

Wow, didn't know that. Jayne Mansfield was b-e-a-utiful. Right up there with Rita Hayworth. What a tragedy.

Sorry Neo.... Automated response.

You can pretty much tell the fill in the gap here areas in the email.

Part 2,

There is another way to test 9V batteries?

A massive 543 Australians were admitted to casualty in the last two years after opening bottles of beer with their teeth or eye socket... Beginners!
