Weird Electrical Short

Yesterday while cleaning out my 1991, I removed the factory phone unit from the trunk. After that, I get the weirdest electrical issues when I step on the brakes of all things. The lights on the dash come on (like the gauge lights), the readout on the hvac goes dim, and the antenna goes up! (WTF???)

I called the previous owner about it, and he said he had the same problem, so he just put the phone unit back in...which is obvious. Is this normal, or does anyone have another suggestion?

Its not normal you must have a ground disconnected from the chassis that gets a ground connection through the phone unit.

Brian, any thoughts about where to look? Not that having the phone unit in is a big deal, but I'd rather fix the car *right* instead.

My guess is its the tail light ground thats off. I will look up the location later and get back to you.

The ground connection you are looking for is G551 in the front left corner of the trunk right by were the phone control unit is.
