I am baffled at the curb weight of 3164 lbs. for a manual trans "T" model.
With an aluminum frame, body and engine, WHERE does all of this weight come from?

That seems heavy, definitely not significantly lighter than other heavier sports cars/GT, but the NA1 Type R is 27++lbs with extensive weight reductions. NA1 hardtop with no PS is 2985~3015lbs.
For comparision:
3rd Gen RX-7 weights 28XXlbs, one of my favorite car of all time.
Evo VIII 3241lbs
STI 3263lbs
Supra Hardtop non turbo 3205lbs
Supra Hardtop turbo 3415lbs
The NSX was designed for extremely high levels of structural rigidity and integrity, both of which were increased with the development of the removable-roof NSX-T. (Attendees at an early NSXPO were treated to the sight of a cross-section of the NSX-T side sills and of the NSX Coupe, and the thicker metal in the extrusion was easily visible.) The rigidity assists not only in handling (such as on the track), but also in crash-worthiness; despite its relatively small size, the NSX protects its occupants exceedingly well in accidents. As some of us who have had serious misfortunes in our NSX will be happy to attest.
