web page links in my e-mail question

When I try to send a link to a web page when I am sending an e-mail it's not a hot link that someone can click and go to that page. What do I need to do to enable this feature? I use hotmail for my e-mail and internet explorer for my browser. It doesn't work if I use a cut and paste either.

Sorry for a dumb question, but I can't figure it out. I was able to use it in the past.
