Want to hear an RS-R exhaust

I am considering getting an RS-R exhaust for my '97 NSX-T. I have read all the discussion on the Performance FAQ, but since the main goal I have for it is better, deeper sound (specifically a low rumble like a V8 at idle) without making the car louder when cruising on the freeway (so I can still talk to my passenger easily), I really need to hear it first hand to check that is the one I want.

Does anyone in the Bay Area have a 97+ NSX with an RS-R exhaust but no other exhaust modifications like after-market headers? If so, would you be willing to take me for a ride in it? Then I could hear the RS-R exhaust first hand, at idle and on the freeway. I will come to you at a time of mutual convenience, and will even bring a nice bottle of wine to say thank you for the demo ride. Please reply to [email protected] if so.

Thank you!

Chip,

I have an RS-R exhaust on my 91, but I also have Comptech headers.

The RS-R is not loud. In sound department, it is probably the closest to OEM among after market exhausts. The RS-R however sounds deeper at idle than OEM. It has that burbling sound that the OEM doesn't. I have to tell you though that it will NOT make the engine sounds like a V8. Just add little more volume to it. Ditto at WOT or while at VTEC.

The used ones are out there, but it will be difficult to find new ones, since they stopped importing them couple years ago. Good Luck!

Hi Chip, I see you live in Belmont, same here. I have a Taitec exhaust on my car if you want to hear it. No problem taking a ride to check out the noise level. Let me know if you're interested.

Thank you George. That sounds great. Nice to know there is another NSX in Belmont (I hope yours is red like in the posted picture, though -- I wouldn't want it to be the same color as mine and right nearby! :-)

I hadn't heard of the Taitec exhaust before. Is it still available? Have you been happy with it?

Also, do you have other exhaust mods like aftermarket headers, or just the Taitec exhaust to hear alone?

Drop me an email at [email protected] and we can pick a day. Sunday afternoon (after the F1 race) or any morning between 9:30 and 10:30 would work best for me.

Hi Chip --

the RSR exhaust is really nice in quality and price, however, as stated above, it is definitely closest to stock I have heard both in sound pitch and volume.

If you are looking for a deep sound, there are three exhausts that come to my mind (in alpha order):

1. ARC Titanium exhaust
2. RM Racing Exhaust
3. TAITEC GT Lightweight

I find the quality of the RM exhaust to be subpar. The TAITEC GT Lightweight offers a nice low pitch while sounding slightly more refined. It is also only about 2 lbs off the titanium exhaust and nearly 1/3 the price.

You can find an exhaust comparo on our site: http://www.scienceofspeed.com/products/exhaust_airflow_products/NSX/exhausts.asp

Cheers,

ive had a tubi for 300 miles now and it might also be what you're looking for. a really nice burble at low rpm, crescendos from 3-5rpm, and then goes into high pitch at approximately 5800-6 rpm.

im in kc, but you can gladly page me at 8006786310 and leave a message, and i'll call you back and let you listen to it over the phone.

im really happy with the tubi choice.

I think I will take "huckster" up on his kind offer, but it will be hard to get an idea of volume over the phone. It sounds like ideally I should hear a Tubi exhaust in person if possible. I do like the sound of the Tubi on my friends Ferrari, but it was very loud on his Ferrari at least (it set of car alarms as we drove by in fact!).

Does anyone in the Bay Area have a Tubi exhaust on their NSX, without aftermarket headers, so I could come by and listen to it? As with my previous offer about the RS-R (which I now understand is probably too subtle a change), we can arrange a time of mutual convenience and I will bring a nice bottle of wine as an extra thank you for the demo ride (preferably to be drank after I leave, not before the demo ride! ;-)

Thank you in advance,
Chip

I believe someone named Gary in Danville has the Tubi. I'm not sure if he is on the board. Spartan2-3 should know his contact info.

Chip,
since you live in Belmont,
wanna hear my gruppeM exhaust?
It activates car alarms too before I pass the cars if I am in underground parking

I started out thinking RS-R might be what I want (as you see in the name of the thread), but after hearing sound clips I think it might be too subtle a step up from stock for me. If I will be coming up near you at any point, I think I might ask to hear it to be sure -- if you are still willing then. But I think I need something in between the RS-R and gruppeM extremes, like the Taitec Ultra Light or the Tubi. Thank you again for the offer, and I hope you like the RS-R.

Hi Romeo,
My friends from this forum who wanted to hear my gruppeM and I just cruised around the block. We followed my NSX, and WOW! the sound is totally different from the outside.
My friend told me it was like LeMans cars from behind at WOT. High pitch and LOUD!

Plus the FIRES coming out of the exhausts!!!
(-> We plan to do this in the future at highway speed, can be done by shifting from 3rd to 4th at WOT)

The sound and look are MEAN AS HELL

My friend plan to install his GruppeM exhaust next week.

Have you decide what exhaust you want?
I think you should wait until you hear my car at WOT. Be ready to write a check

Do you plan to do a group meeting again?
If you want to set up a time, let's meet this month.
