I don't know if this video went national or not, but there was a stampede at one of our local Walmarts this morning. It's sad, but one funny thing about one of the women that went down seemed to be more concerned about putting her wig back on that fell off rather than get up and get out of the way.

Go to www.woodtv.com and check out the videos section to the left and click the link for the trampling incident.

That's comical in so many ways.

1) Stampeding into Walmart... I avoid that place at all costs, and yet these people are climbing over each other to get in there.
2) The woman who is just laying there, like comquat1 said, to put her wig back on rather than get the hell out of the way.
3) The fact that most of those Walmart stampeders will use nothing but credit cards for those purchases.

I can think of nothing in Walmart's inventory that would convince me to be a part of that crowd.

Was there a black Dodge Neon drag racing people in the lot, Doug? :D ;)

Seriously....that video is just plain sad. What is even more sad is that the people on the video are blaming Wal-Mart, and saying they did not do enough to protect the shoppers. NEWSFLASH MORON!!! It was not Wal-Mart that knocked you to the ground. It was not Wal-Mart that pushed its way through the doors. It was a bunch of overzealous dip$hits and people with no regard for others safety that caused this. There was something on the news last night about an all out brawl that broke out in another store over some holiday sales. My question to you is at what point does someones life become so meaningless that it is suddenly okay to trample, beat, and possibly kill someone, just to save some money on a Christmas gift?? It is a sad state of affairs in this country that this stuff happens, and that the people involved are too stupid to take personal responsibility. It is always someone elses fault around the United States. :frown:

They were going after this mostly, ($397 Laptop)

here

The fact is they only had 20 of them to sell is a "shame on you Wal-mart."

ENDS TODAY! Sat Nov 26th
On another note. If your in the market for a mini DV camcorder I came across this at Best buy. It is $198 AR. I have it and it's not real high end, but it does everything a average user wants. I have tried it and the video pics are great. Just look at the specs! (*not listed is the firewire port, but it has a 1394 firewire transfer capable)

Pros:
-Mini DV / price
-firewire
-USB 2.0 also
-mem stick for stills
-20x zoom is more than adequate
-CCD image sensor with 680K pixels
-Digital image stabilization
-PCM digital sound
-Direct printing with any PictBridge-enabled printer

cons:
-low lux so-so
-firewire cable not included
-mini DV tapes not included
The only caveat is there are no more stocked, but you can order one and it will be delivered in 3-5 biz days. You must get the rebate, ($95) postmarked by Dec 31.

*disregard the price in this link. It's $197 AR here

I went to wally world for the laptop at 3:30 am. There were around 1500 people camping out in front of the store waiting for them to open the doors at 4:00. I thought I was an idiot for going at 330, but those that camped out, thats hardcore walmart junkie!!!! Never again will I waste my morning doing that crap, didnt get anything on my list  I also past by Suckit City and they were just as packed.
On a bright note, my store did the most I have ever done in a day yesterday

That's interesting, I got up around 9:00am, strolled down the the local Meijer (Walmart competitor in the midwest) and got a parking spot at the front (side entrance), walked in and was shocked at how slow it appeared. I got some 30pk cd-r's for $3.33 and bought my girlfriends christmas present then went to Circuit city and again, it appeared dead. Granted we had a pretty good snowfall, but I expected more. The Circuit city deals were all gone - I went to buy arrested development season 2 for $14.00 but it was sold out, so when I got home I bought it online from buy.com for $17.00 shipped. I did try to pricematch the dvd at walmart, and it was a freaking madhouse. That place really is where trailer trash shops. I expect to hear no complaining from the lower class regarding the economy b/c we don't buy American when so many shop at walmart with their chinese made stuff.

I went plasma TV shopping with my uncle last night, because he had no clue what to lok for, and we figured out we wanted this nice 50" Panasonic DLP Plasma. IT kicked ass compared to LG, Samsung, and everyone else. No one has it, in the sotre, in NJ, let alone the U.S. at 8PM Last night. We went to PC Richards(I didnt want to go figuring they dont have crap) They didnt have the Panasonic, but they had the HP Plasma, the only one in stock, and it was a 42"...I haggled the guy for a low price and we left. POTS: If you want someone, you need to get it early before other get to it first.

FYI, DLP and plasma are mutually exclusive technologies. Here is a link that discusses the differences between them.

a diamond in the rough...

I was rather surprised to notice the price for a 1ct. diamond solataire ring in white-gold setting for $992 on Wal-Mart's "Black Friday" online specials. Anyways, it sold-out pretty much instantaneously (imagine that, limited-quantity on something actually worthile... ).

The stone was actually of good quality (far from mediocre): size: 1ct. cut: round-brilliant, color: I-J, clarity: I1-I2, setting: 10kt (?) white-gold ... phenomenal deal IMHO. I haven't ever seen a retail loose-stone for less than $2k w/ similar specs', and that's w/o a setting.

Autophile: yeah your right, sorry. I got a projector recently and I still have DLP in my head from all the trips to the stores here in NJ.

And where exactly do you think Circuit City (along with Best Buy, Target, Radio Shack, etc.) are getting all of their low priced products?

Wal-Mart is simply participating in the global economy along with the rest of retail America. Wal-Mart openly "confesses" to purchasing $18 billion worth of chinese made goods last year. With total sales of $285 billion, this amounts to 6.3% of total sales. Wal-Mart also purchased more than $150 billion in US made products last year, a figure rarely mentioned by the media. Is Wal-Mart the largest importer of chinese goods in America? In dollars, yes. As an overall percentage of sales? Not very likely. But we'll never know for sure, because no one else is releasing that information, or being questioned about importing practices. Wal-Mart could source more products in the US, effectively raising prices for the consumer, and customers would simply shop elsewhere for lower priced goods. Wal-Mart acts as an "agent" for their customers, seeking to lower the cost of goods for everybody. I believe Wal-Mart is picked on and singled out in the media because of their size.

Disclaimer: I work for Wal-Mart, have for 12 years now.

I feel that Wal-Mart is a well run operation. It's hard to argue w/ success. I sometimes shop there, but I've never seen so many customers open up stuff and stick their fingers into it as I have at the local W.Mart. For this reason, I stay away from the food, hygene products area. The vast area of unsupervised shopping floor probably gives certain people a feeling that they can do whatever they want w/ merchandise they haven't bought yet. Classy

I cannot think of anything, ever, that would cause me to go out of my way like that to buy.

Anything that cheap isn't worth the money. You get what you pay for. I'll take my $1600 powerbook over some $400 PC laptop pile of junk. Sort of as a rule, unless it's food or cleaning materials, or an occational Men's Health or Road&Track, I don't buy it @ WalMart. They won't even sell unedited CD's...

ahahahaha... .someone call 911, I'm laughing my ass off over here and can hardly breathe. The guy pushing that lady to the ground, and the fact that the other lady laid there getting trampled just so she can put on her wig.... and then the overweight lady needing help getting up.... jesus. I hope they saved their $50 off whatever they were looking for.

Ugh... Christmas is such a crappy time of year anymore. Thanksgiving, I love... it's all about family and friends and none of this commercial BS we see around xmas.

Christmas is so comercialized, it makes me sick! Stup!d over-priced Hallmark crap; peddling their propaganda to brainwash people. Like the $25 singing glittering christmas ball is going to make your pathetic existence worth while. You best go buy the $800 plastic LED christmas tree before your neighbour buys it. What ever happened to going out with your family to cut a real tree down?? Was that not what christmas was about in the first place, spending time with your family? I aint no scrooge trying to steal christmas, but as far as I can see, and the video sure proves it, we have lost the core values that make christmas what it is.

I hear ya steva44. I hate going to the mall, even when its not a holiday. I just hate dealing with pushy, rude, annoying people, and their uncontrolable kids. On those few times that I do go to the mall, I go in, purchase what I need, and leave.

Christmas and every other holiday have been commercialized too much. Being in the military and having deployed several times have made me realize that Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc..is all about family and close friends. People forget that, too quickly.

PC Richard is a class outfit and I buy my stuff there whenever possible. We bought a huge (at the time) Proscan TV a few years ago which developed issues which several attempts at repair could not resolve. Nine months after purchasing the TV, PC Richard took it back, with no hassle, and gave us full credit towards another TV. There's a reason they've been around for nearly a century while other CE retailers have come & gone (Incredible Universe, The Wiz, Newmark & Lewis, etc.)

That's why I shop online
