You'd have better luck with LED lighting. No inverters (sp?), draws less power, lasts longer, more reliable, less fragile, brighter, the list goes on and on... you can find LED's all over ebay. Build your own, or buy a pre-made kit that all you have do is mount it and turn it on...

shiftybobs probably right... LEDs would be the most efficient route... although you can use the neon sticks (also used on the under-car lighting kits)...

either or, a fairly simple job to do and hook up...

NOW getting the FISH in this 'aquarium' is the REAL TRICK

personally I wouldn't do it because it's too "ricey" for me (the lights), but one fish you should def put in an aquarium like that is the "CTSC Fish"...

Problem with Led lights are that the light they produce is very direct where as Neon is more diffused and cast more of a balanced glow. Leds will be more like spot lights and will not have the same effect.

When using LED's to light computer cases we typically use diffusers to spread the LED pattern, on a much-larger application, like an engine bay, you could easily get away with a series of LED's with diffusers mouted on them - light spread would be similar to a 'neon' light bar, but with the advantages of LED.

I notice the popularity of neon lights here in the US on cars.

We use it in Thailand to light up street vendor carts that sell food at night.

I love LEDs.

looking at the original image... the lighting does look a bit spotty... like a few strong spots on like alternator, reservoir, etc.

How do they diffuse it .... If I was to take a guess I would say with some kind of lens.

The member who posted the VTEC Aquarium photo was Jason C, I sent him a private message but I have not received a response.... I just think it's a cool way to show off your power.
