In the OBDII cars, the wiring is a little different than the 91 shop manual. If you remove the two large plugs that go into the bottom of the guage cluster, you find the tach and speed wires. The tach wire is on the left side plug (closest to the dash light dimmer switch) It is green. Splice into that wire. The plug closet to the ignition key has the speed sensor wire. It is solid ORANGE (whatta pain to find this out. Much thanks to user dnicholson and his newer model shop manual pdf's ):D

Many thanks to Bill for taking the time to work this through.

Im installing the VSD in my 02, but I have TWO orange wires on the ignition side plug. One *may* be thicker than the other (tough to tell) and one *may* have more frequent (but very faint) silver paint like markers on them (for quality control?).

Im unsure if I should use trial and error because if one of them is powered, I could end up with a wack of volts headed the wrong way into the VSD.

Anyone have the wiring diagram for an 02 to determine which wire is the SPEED sensor wire? Positioning in the plug would be helpful too.

TIA

Awesome Bram!

There are two large plugs that go into the bottom of the guage cluster. One is towards the drivers door, the other toward the cars midline.

The wire that goes to the SPEED guage is supose to be within the big plug that is toward the cars midline (behind the ignition). It is supose to be orange.

In my car, it appears that there are TWO orange wires that plug into the bottom of the cluster.

I am looking for anything you can tell me about which one is the SPEED wire (ie position within the plug, wire size, whatever wires may be in close proximity to it, etc...). There are about 25 wires in that plug!

Since I posted initially, I have powered the unit up. The car has remained in the garage, so I dont know if speed is working, but it powers and I have the tach working.
