The Kansas Speedway web site has a poll on the home page asking what type of improvements you would like to see, and suprisingly a road course is one of 4 options to vote on. As a PSL holder at this track I can tell you that the lights are coming as well as more seats in 03. We in the mid-west can only hope a roadcourse is in the plans, so would you mind giving it a vote. www.kansasspeedway.com

hey, c'mon guys. we need your help. whether you already have a track close or not, another track is a good thing. please vote and help us push this thing over the edge.

this could also develop into another potential nsxpo venue. EVERYBODY VOTE!!!

The current results do not look good:

A Road Course (8%)
More Grandstands (41%)
Lights (49%)
More Suites (1%)

That's the problem with taking a vote at a venue that's primarily used either (a) for a dragstrip or (b) by spectators. Neither group has any interest in using a road course. Those who do, probably wouldn't even normally frequent the track's website. (No offense, and yes, I did vote for a road course too.)

Incidentally, Heartland Park in Topeka has been mentioned as a possible NSXPO venue at some point in the future. Not too long ago, I had a conversation with a very enthusiastic person at the Topeka Convention and Visitors Bureau. However, its location halfway between the sites of NSXPO 2001 and NSXPO 2002 doesn't help, since other parts of the country will be getting the opportunity to host the event in the next few years (Northern California and Sears Point for NSXPO 2003, and Upstate New York and Watkins Glen for NSXPO 2004).

I would agree for the most part that it location may not attract like tracks on the coast. As for Heartland Park, havn't raced on the track for several years, but its a fun track and available in a 1.7 & 2.6 mile variations.

As I mentioned in the post about the poll, the lights & seating are already on the way for 2003. Frankly, it was suprising to see the thought of a roadcourse even mentioned, but the track is owned by ISC (NASCAR) and they could be thinking about it, but i've been known to be an optimist.

You misunderstand. Tracks in the middle of the country can be very attractive - as we've seen with NSXPO '98 (Mid-Ohio), NSXPO 2001 (Road America), and NSXPO 2002 (Texas Speedway and Motorsports Ranch). There's nothing wrong with being in the middle of the country, except that that's where the most recent NSXPOs are/have been. It's just that the folks on the West Coast and East Coast need to get their chance, too - which they will in the next few years.
