Video: See how Schumacher drives

It would be interesting to see how much his driving style has changed over the years, if any. The advancements in today's cars are pretty enormous over the previous generation. I think he last drove for Ford-Benetton in '94 or '95.

Thanks for posting the link...great vid!

I think F1 Magazine had the telemetry links comparing Schumacher and Barrichello going through the same corners. From what I recall, the traces had Michael downshifting later, having more throttle throughout the turn, and gaining a few tenths coming out.

Rowr,

I know exactly the issue you were talking about. It also suggest Schumi's left foot braking compared to Barrichello's right foot only brake and throttle control made a big difference in corner and entry speeds.

BTW, what is this video from? Love to see the entire show. Any info?

Ken

That is one of the best videos I've ever seen, and I have seen hundreds. Seeing the datalogs is like seeing the solution to a puzzle reveal itself. Its also funny to see Schumacher humble for a change. "why are you so fast?" "Because I drive on the limit more" sounds cocky, but he is sincere.

Yes, pdf of that article is here:
BTW, this is probably one of the best articles.

btw, I notice that you are becoming quite the track junky

I think that high performance driving is one of the most challenging experiences. I love challenges, and everything about it, and that what worries me ;)

Schumacher is truly one of the best, if not the best (no love lost for Senna of course) I would love to see how he would compare to all the other drivers without the Ferrari advantage. I am pretty sure he would come out on top.

I remember Jensen Button saying Schumacher only wins because he has the best car. But Schumacher has helped Ferrari get to where they are as much as they have helped him achieve what he has.

Technical ability aside, when Schumacher joined Ferrari, they were not the Ferrari team that we saw now, and they were only midpack runners. They've just been transformed since then with Schumacher, Todt, Brawn & Byrne on board.

There's something about his ability to motivate the team that differentiates him from other drivers .. (And I'm no Schumacher fan, .. I'd much prefer the likes of Rubens, JV, or Prost). In a team environment like F1 these days, technical ability by itself is not enough to propel a driver to the top.

bsudiro,

I heard that Schumacher also has a good ear in such that he can listen to the engine and help the engineers tune/fix what problems may occur in practice. If that is true, that can also explain why he has not had an engine failure in long time.

Drivers like Schumacher and Senna do not come by often. The closest F1 driver to them now would probably be Kimi Raikonnen.

Guess you don't subscribe to the conspiracy theory that Schummi always gets the better car than his teammate ..

As for Senna .. somehow I've always prefer Prost to Senna ... that's just me ..

I'm sure that Schumacher does indeed get a slightly better car or at least one that suits his style better.

Absolutely. If you look at the pdf file of the magazine article that compares Schumacher and Barrichelo (the one that I posted above), their cars are setup completely differently due to their different style.
