What are you using to mount your video camera?

I am looking for a non-permanent mounting solution.

Here is what I have tried so far.

1. Suction cup on the rear window. Tends to bounce over bumps
2. Bracket bolted on to the center speaker cover. Also bounces because even though it was stiff the center bulhead cover would flex just a bit longitudinally on bumps.

It seems to me that a harness bar is the best option. However, at $750 that's an expensive camera mount unless you are going to run harness belts (I wear a 5 pt at work so I don't want to in my car).

I was thinking a metal loop that goes from L seat and R seat inside mounting points (think upside down U). I wonder if this might run into problems with bumps causing this mount to sway back and forth in the longitudinal plane though even if it was stiff and solid. I guess I will have to try to find out.

I guess I can take the rear bulkhead cover off and mount it to the firewall -
found this old video post... http://www.jayspec7.com/videos/limerock110604a.mov
This seems to give good results but a PITA to remove and reinstall for track days.

I use an ioport mount on my harness bar but there are plenty of guys using the higher end suction devices, just do a search there have been recent discussions.

It depends on how much you want to spend. I found that filmtools.com has the best mounting solutions but some of there set ups get pretty expensive so for me a cheaper solution and a few parts of the video being shaky I will compromise.

This is a good thread where I chimed in on and had some comments and suggestions.

$378

This is new and looks promising and I am thinking about ordering it but switching the 4.5" vacuumm cup for a 6". I have used the mount that I will show you next with the 6" cup and its solid as a rock but limited in its mounting possibilities. I want to get this one because I prefer the front view as opposed to the rear seat view which shows the cabin.

$84.95 with standard cup + $10 with 6" cup

This is what I like to use but like I said you can only mount this on the back inside window of the nsx but its solid as a rock

Nice mounts.. Do you know how they hold up when they're mounted outside of the car at high speeds?

The 6" vacuum mount is rock solid on any non porus clean smooth surface. We had one mounted on a Gallardo at over 120 MPH and there were no problems. These vacuum cups are the industrial standard in many trades as well as in film production work. They are also great for pulling out dents !

Where did you get this mount (the one on the left)? Cost? That looks like it would work pretty well on the rear glass. I have one of those video cameras that is vertical so the lens is 3-4" higher than the mount so I need to drop it down lower than the rear glass - ie that looks like it would work.

That is a the Hama mount which I customized by switching the supplied suction cup with a vacuum suction cup. The stock version used to always loose its grip and fall off the glass.

This mount works on front windshield glass or rear and allows partial panning to the sides about ten degrees left n right. My only complaint is that the platform sometimes sags down from the weight of the cam because the tightening adjustment is not so great.
