VERY Preliminary Question For The General NSX Population

It’s far too premature for me to even contemplate this—and I am familiar enough with NSXPO and it’s great success: congratulations (and you all probably don’t know me)—yet, here I am, contemplating it.

In short I was wondering if I hosted an event in and around the State of Maine in 2025 (I’ve hosted 9 Jaguar F-Type events since 2016) consisting of a roughly 4 1/2 day event, would any NSX (obviously Gen-1 and Gen-2) members here be interested in attending? A lot of preparation goes into it—I not only do not get paid to host, but I’m usually out of pocket roughly around a grand each time…and I do not want or expect to get paid back)—and while I am not close to committing, I just wanted to get a sense if anyone is interested?

I usually have to limit the number of vehicles to around 15 or so simply because the “doors” I open usually can’t handle more than 30-35 people (I.e. the restaurants we go to are not only top notch but try getting a reservation for 2 people never mind 32).

It’s just a thought, if a very preliminary one.

If you are interested in learning more of some of my past events, if you go to Jaguar Forums (under F-Type) and do a search for (my last couple) 2022 Jaguar Every Thing Ends Tour—I usually post an itinerary as well as a “With Thanks & Gratitude” post after the event ends—and 2021 Jaguar Magical Mystery Tour (that did not list an itinerary as every place we went to was a secret: known only to me. In 2020 I actually held an event—despite Covid!—which I had named long before there was Covid, called 2020 Jaguar F-Type Ghost Tour. An apt name if ever there was one (the name was an inside joke) and not only did everyone show up but none of us got sick!

Best regards,
Jay

P.S. My wife just made a great point, she said, “what about your Jaguar group?” If—a big if as I handed the events over to one of our group as 9 was enough for me—I hosted an event in Maine I actually might need to incorporate a bunch of F-Types. A large bunch. I’ll cross that bridge if it even comes to that.

4 1/2 days is a bit much, , I might consider a 2 1/2 day event. Maine is beautiful, but I've seen frost in July there!!!

Trust me, the attendees of my events don’t want to leave even after 4 1/2 days, never mind the distances that they’ve driven to get there***. One couple drove west of Denver for one. And we’ve even had several people from Canada attend. One couple, from Cincinnati, attended several of the events and loved Maine so much (I cover a lot of ground/road so they really got a taste for it, literally and figuratively) that they actually moved there.

You do bring up an intetesting “concept”…maybe the first 1/2 of the event dedicated to the NSX and the second half dedicated to my F-Type group: with a day in between for both groups combined? Sounds plausible if a bit cumbersome.

***The reason for the length of the events is they are traveling vast distances and I’ve always had the desire to provide them with the “full Monty” and those added days really add to the experience.

Lastly, no one is obligated to attend all the days. As long as I know that ahead of time that’s not going to be a problem. As you might imagine—and if you go to the Jaguar F-Type forum and check out any of my threads with past events—you’ll discover there are lots of logistics involved.

And, truth be told, I am merely trying to get even a cursory interest from NSX Prime members. This might not happen at all. And I certainly wouldn’t be offended if there’s no interest (I might even be relieved:)).

4 days in same spot or driving around to different location?
I mix a little (some would say a lot) into each day. My days tend to start early and end late. There is enough driving to have fun and “hit” a multitude of places without exhausting people who’ve already come a long way. It’s a healthy mix of driving, eating, socializing, and seeing stuff people coming to Maine enjoy. I make it worth their time here, even if they might grumble about my keeping everyone together and on time!

Keep in mind 1) I realize few, if anyone, here knows me 2) Having hosted, entirely, 9 separate events, I kinda know what I’m doing 3) I cannot emphasize enough that I am merely taking a straw poll…

Here are a few photos—there are literally hundreds if not thousands we’ve taken over the years:

You guys (gals?) might like these. In browsing this iPad I came across a few shots from my preliminary drive (test drive) with a few NSX friends in NYC in 1997. I think the actual number of attendees was close to 30.

Last few photos and I’m done for now. This might just be a pipe dream (or a nightmare)—and I am not trying to “sell this” to anyone. Just trying to get a sense if there is any interest.

One guy forgot his glasses back in the hotel and left that empty spot open—which thankfully no interloper took (probably because breakfast was at 7:00 AM)—on the extreme left.

While I pride myself on my organizing photogenic parking, since we had the whole top floor of this building to park…I thought we should have a little chaotic fun.

Jay, I always wanted to go to a NSXPO gathering, but they are always a long drive away, and late enough that I could quite possibly hit crappy weather on the way home. In the twelve years I've had my car, I have only been caught out in a shower a hand full of times.(roof is rarely out of the clamshell). Driving on snow covered roads is not likely to ever happen!
I would be interested in your gathering. I could grab the Cat Ferry and save some miles, plus I'm not very worried about frost in July in Maine! 🫠

And you would be most welcome. The greatest issue (no, not snow or frost) is my willing to commit to organizing it. Truth is it’s quite easy for me but it does require countless e-mails and phone calls to various places where I “open doors” and I am nowhere near [wanting to] doing that.

If I were to put out an e-mail to our group of merry men and women in the Jaguar F-Type group I would, no doubt, get acceptance e-mails from everyone (about 15-18 cars as it’s been invitation only the last 6 events). My 2022 Jaguar Every Thing Ends Tour was my last as hosting 9 events was sufficient for me (despite pleas for me to continue) and was delighted to pass the torch to others who have successfully organized a 2023 and 2024 event in the Northeast.

I don’t want to get anyone’s hope up unnecessarily here but simply seeing what, if any, interest there is.

Thank you for chiming in. I imagine that there are many others here who are kinda in the same boat—eh, car—you are in. Literally and figuratively.

Best regards,
Jay

P.S. It is far too great a list to give you an example of the extent of my events—plus the swag I acquire for attendees—and why I suggest shooting over to the Jaguar Forums F-Type group and check out a few of the posts which show the itinerary. Let me look and maybe attach a link or two here…

Followed by my write up of “With Thanks & Gratitude”:

A reminder that I do not get paid to host these events. My rewards are all the smiles I see while traipsing around the State of Maine. We all pay our way through and have a ball. You would NOT get much sleep but you would have memories to last a lifetime.

One of my favorite shots from the 2021 Magical Mystery Tour…from Portland Head Light. Quintessential Maine.

If you zoom in to that traffic circle on the right you will discover 14 F-Types parked and ready to go to the next venue. With a police cruiser providing us with a brief escort—although I seem to recall it was about 10 minutes, which isn’t brief at all. Nice to have at times…

Hmmm we have probably met in those early years, I see Don G.. possibly Mohit C. and Wayne? in that NYC pic.

Sharp eyes! The only one you are missing—as am I as he passed away a few years back—is Bob L. The two NYC events I hosted were extraordinary (and, no, I do not have an over-inflated ego; I just know what is involved in hosting these things…by myself) which simply could not be recreated in today’s world, For just one example…we all parked directly in front of the NY Stock Exchange—there are barriers there now—complete with bomb-sniffing dogs walking around each car.

The NSX Prime membership will, hopefully, forgive me if I don’t actually host an event; and all these posts have been a waste of time for you. I just have to be willing to commit to doing it—provided there is sufficient interest—and, maybe, have my head examined.

After any number of the events I’ve hosted, I’ve often wondered—and posted the question—why others haven’t hosted their own events. There are certainly enough automobile enthusiasts who would love to experience a multi-day (or even a single day) event outside their usual environment.

It starts—at least it started for me—with my love of cars. First and foremost driving them! Followed by culture and eating and, yes, sharing it with others who are like-minded (although I have taken plenty of people outside their comfort zones).

From afar I'll state I certainly admire your enthusiasm and initiative. Initiative being the rare attribute these days when it is so extremely difficult to get folks out of the house. And NSX owners willing to put (greater) miles onto their prize possessions... .

IF we were closer we'd be IN 🏎️

My very rough guess is assuming I can get 5-10 NSX owners who express a desire to attend, that might start to sway me towards putting an event on. I am quite certain 10-15 Jaguar F-Types would instantly accept my invitation if extended. But I am holding off letting my group of merry men and women know I am even thinking of hosting another event.

Thank you for chiming in.

Best regards,
Jay

I'd be in if I was closer. Ant btw, we are fine with posts like this. I fully support community engagement and events, so I say have at it.

Liz and I have been looking for an excuse to get up to Maine at some point, so would try to make it up from Tennessee as long as it didn't conflict with the event we host in late July. Maybe use the trip to hit a track in the NE on the way home or something. We're overdue for an 'XPO in the NE anyway, so could be a fun way to push the ball down the hill towards something like that (or getting interest from some other sucker to organize it :D ).
