Ok, I am not exactly sure that it is a VAMPIRE bat, however a bat has taken up residence in my shop (Umbrella Auto Design) I believe it has only been there a few days, however I still cannot figure out how it got inside in the first place.

We have 30'+ ceilings so its impossible for me to net or catch

I have tried leaving the bay door open all day and it won't leave.

I tried shooting it with rubber bands........HUGE mistake as I just pissed it off.

Any suggestions fellas?

Rent a couple of fog machines and close it up for a few minutes with em on full blast. Then open up the doors and if he's still conscious he'll get the hell out of there quick.

Vampire bats' range only extends to the middle of the continent. Must be a diffent kind that far North.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. So far the fog machine seems like the best/most humane idea.

I don't really want to hurt him, just make him vacate my shop:biggrin:

Thanks

Ravi

Agreed... shooting at them is a BAD idea, they get pissed

I was only 13 at the time..I was shitt'n bricks lol.

After it's gone you also might want to check for any holes or gaps in your building where they might be coming in from and seal them up. They can find entrances sensing air currents and temperatures.

What's the problem? Bats won't hurt anything. In fact, lots of people purchase "bat houses" like a bird house. They eat insects. If you go to Home Depo you'll see that they do sell the bat houses. Leave it alone and it will take off when he feels like it. Oh, I think you'll find it is asleep during the day.

Meh unless the bat is bothering folks during business hours I say let it be. They sleep during the day anyway. Unless of curse you hang out there at night. Like it was said, they help keep insects in check. Call it the shop mascot.

I can think of one problem.... bat poo. I'm sure Kane has allot of nice parts sitting around that he doesn't want covered in that stuff.

BTW, my policy is NO freeloaders. If it's not paying rent then OUT with it.

The only thing i can think of thats worse than vermin in FLYING vermin.

LOL. You make an excellent point regarding bat poo.

If it wasn't for the poo issue, I'd welcome a bat or two in my garage. As long as you don't try to bare-hand catch it, it's not going to bite you, and so there's not really any danger of rabies or the like.

But ... given the poo ... it's gotta go. If the other suggestions don't work, call your local vermin exterminator.

Bats will always have that nocturnal-freaky-scary association by how they're portrayed in horror films and such. Which is why most poeple don't want them around. And they will poop all over your stuff..

This is really a crappy problem to have. Also, why are guys here posting about how a bat scared the crap out of THEM?

Yes the potential issue is the POO.

I keep all the fragile/sensitive stuff boxed or covered up anyway, however I still cannot tolerate it.

I gotta solve this today..... somehow:smile:

the "vampire" topic clearly has a lot of poo-tential for discussion - just look at the view / post ratio ;)

i say find a way to keep 'em around and happy until halloween and then put 'em to work :)

Ah Poop! Forgot about that little detail. House train the bat then.:biggrin:

All this talk about bat poo and the word "guano" hasn't come up. You should use it sometime. It's fun. Guano, guano, guano.
He's right, though. I had bats in my lake house and by the time I discovered them, there were several large guanite formations.
Just wait 'till they leave at night, seal up the hole, and they'll never be back.

I haven't found any guano piles yet luckily.

My shop is sealed up tight, checked for holes and there are none.

He must have flown when the bay door was open?

Either that or he arrived in the box of parts I received from Titanium Dave:biggrin:?
