I was looking into getting this done on my lower-mile 93, and wanted to know what folks' cost experience is:

- local indie shop quoted me approx $240 (includes approx 3h of labor)
- is this good / bad / fair ??

The book service interval is every 15K miles or 1 year. I would infer that most folks do this on a mileage basis, rather than time. Any suggestions here ?

Thanks

The FAQ notes typical prices a few years ago as $248-259, so this sounds about right for an independent. However, while this is something that anyone could do, I think I would prefer to take it to a place that has a fair amount of NSX experience, and wouldn't have to go through a learning curve.

Manuel, have you given up on Chuck and Craig and on John?

and if you really want a non-dealer to work on your car it'll be very help ful to them if you can give them "the book". just to make sure they don't miss a step or two.

No -- was thinking of trying the folks at Auto Doctor in Evanston. Initially it was just for an oil change, brake flush, but then considered having them do the valve adjustment.

Last valve adjustment was in early 2002 (approx 18 months ago). I haven't really put that many miles on since (6500-7000 tops). As the recommended service interval is 1 year / 15 k miles, am I better off deferring it to Spring '04, and bring it to Pauly or Brookfield then ??

Do it yourself and save big $$, plus learn a little about your ride. It's actually pretty easy. By the way, I adjusted the valves on my Civic in 25 minutes - start to finish - got to be the easiest car to adjust the valves on.

I tend to think of recommended maintenance services as falling into one of two categories: (a) items that can deteriorate due to usage as well as due to the passage of time, such as fluids that can absorb moisture and rubber items that can dry out - and these I do whenever either interval (time or mileage) occurs; and (b) items that deteriorate primarily due only to usage and not the passage of time, such as the valve clearances - and these I do when I hit the mileage intervals but not necessarily the time intervals. And I put the valve adjustment into category (b). Perhaps our technical gurus like sjs or Larry B can comment.
