Does anyone know where I can purchase the latest version of the V1 1.8 with POP in Canada?

I do not understand why some places charge $500 USD + shipping for the radar detector when Valentine himself sells the unit brand new for $399 USD + shipping..

I thought about getting a used V1 version 1.7 but it will cost $190 USD + shipping to get it upgraded to version 1.8 with POP so its not worth it.

thanks....

I had one, as described. I think I sold it here for $350 or something...

I had to get rid of it because the OPP cops in Ontario still managed to nab me with their detector-detector.

I seriously considered buying yours, but to upgrade it to a version 1.8 would have costed me another $190USD + shipping which would have been more than a new V1 1.8 with POP from V1 direct. Good thing for us westerners to radar dectectors are perfectly legal.....

Just get one from Ebay or from V1 - youll pay duty if you get one from their website

ebay people are selling them for $500+ USD + shipping...

even after duty and brokerage its still cheaper to buy from V1 direct but I wanted to see if anyone sells them in Canada directly because there is less hassles..

you dont really need the pop.

it wont make a difference. when the cop turns on his radar, your already clocked.

any radar detector is only useful when the cop has his setup on, its not a police detector, its a radar detector and if radar is off, you dont get any notice.

happy motoring.

Isn't getting it from V1 the same thing as getting it from their website?

I think you're ignoring the special needs of those in some Canadian provinces, where the use of radar detectors is illegal and the newer version of the V1 (as I understand it) is not detectable by the "detector detector" that their provincial police use.

Ken - yeah I was using V1 and website as the same. He can prob get a V1 off ebay in Canada, and he wouldnt pay duty on that.

All V1s are detectable by the SPECTRE which is used by the OPP. The latest ones are immune to VG2 detection, but there are no more of those detector detectors around since SPECTRE showed up. Only the Beltronics STi, which is what I use, is not detectable by SPECTRE (no leakage whatsoever).

Hard to get one on ebay from a Canadian Ebay sellers. That is why I'm asking if anyone knows of some one or some place in Canada selling a V1 version 1.8.

BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan are 3 provinces where having and using a radar detector is perfectly legal. I know POP isn't necessary because from what I read, it is unrelible and police aren't warranted to use POP. But version 1.8 has upgrades and improvements compared to version 1.7 and I would like to have the latest software out there.

I have no problems paying customs and taxes. I rather pay something then raise question marks when products are de valued or marked as 'gift'.

I have read the threads on Prime about the V1 vs X50 as well as other reviews on the 2. I believe they are both really comparable but the biggest advantage the V1 has are those arrows.

Generally in my DD or when I'm driving my NSX alone. I do not speed or only speed by about 10km/h at the most. But when I'm cruising with a pack of NSXs. For some reason the chance of speeding goes up 10 folds. Maybe they are a bad influence on me

Oh wait, I made a huge error in my post. I didn't get nabbed by the detector-detector (obviously, since it would have been confiscated and I wouldn't be selling it on Prime). I drove past an oncoming patrol car doing 15 kms over the limit, the cop did a u-turn and pulled me over. They have new radar now that is constantly on and reads oncoming speeds. My V1 was silent THE ENTIRE BLOODY TIME! In fact, I almost shat myself pulling it off the dash and throwing it behind the passenger seat as Mr.Law approached.

So, the V1 version had was not detectable, but it did not warn me of oncoming rader/laser whatever he had running.

Sounds like you may need a m-binder as well.

Correct Picard.

he could be bsing you. cops do that a lot.

V1s can detect all radar, except 16ms POP and all laser.

He was BSing you. I dont know, but I dont believe that 16ms POP can operate from a moving vehicle. Perhaps I am wrong. No detector can detect that BTW.

I think you are trying to get us to share in any of the fines or penalties you may receive! Maybe some sort of speeding ticket fund would work. Invest it in the stock market, gain interest and payoff any speeding tickets we may get. Ryan of course would have to be excluded or at least pay double to offset his "Fast Driving Awards!"
