Took the family on a tour of the decommissioned USS Hornet aircraft carrier which is stationed at the Alameda Naval Station right next to Oakland.

It was a very cool tour and we spent about 4 hours there and didn't see everything. They let you walk around on your own or you can join a tour group.

The Hornet also has a few aircraft on display not all of which were actually used on the ship. It also has the actual Apollo lunar module that it helped recover form the first Apollo mission.

Supposedly the USS Hornet is haunted by a few of the crew and I think appeared on the Ghosthunters (or another similar show) a while back which was a big draw for the kids.

Here are a few shots I took from the tour.

I find it very inspirational that the "public" appreciates the aircraft carriers and the equipment/aircraft/etc...of the day.

But seeing aircraft that I flew (A-4 Skyhawk) in a museum dates me!
