Upgraded speaker baffle advice

Hey. I started this project which now I don't think I should have since I have no stereo knowledge or anything else that would help me along with this project, nor do I have a lot of money so I can't really pay someone to install this stuff for me. So my problem is that I have my door panels off and sub enclosure out and I'm trying to make a speaker baffle.

Does anyone have any advice before I take back the stuff I bought like a baffle pattern I could borrow or something? I tried tracing the "clam shell" of the bose but that didn't turn out to well. I had this idea but I'm not sure if it will work or not. I was going to take half of the original bose baffle, and take the backing so the side that the screws attach to the door frame. I was going to just take that and fiberglass the inside creating a stronger base so I could still use the factory screws to hold it in place. Then I'd cut a hole or put some mdf board on top of the fiberglass and cut a hole, then install my speaker.

Does this idea sound really dumb?

DEcosse and Zetoolman both sell speaker baffle plates... and it's well worth it to buy a set and move on with your install. The time and agrevation is worth the price alone - plus both sets are top notch quality and well executed.

Once again, Zetoolman make a fantastic fiberglass box... I know it's beau coup $ for something you can do yourself, but I GUARANTEE that it will not be nearly as nice as the ones that come out of his mold. I know this from experience, as I bought one his orginal big boxes and hacked off the front, put in a new mounting ring and refiberglassed the front to make it shallower... three months later Hal (Zetoolman) come out with this beautiful shallow mount sub. BTW: My sub is functional with the new face, but not nearly as pretty as Ze's. But it's covered with carpet anyway. :) If you can spare the $, I highly recommend buying one' of Hal's. Plus, I think Hal went through several protypes of the small box to optimize volume while still maintaing "almost" factory legroom.

Thanks again. I've seen that box before but was wondering where it bolts down to. Or does it just sit there nice and fit?

It wedges in very tight, Hal used every square mm. Then the carpet goes over it. The old one, the larger version, sits on top of the carpet and wedges in. Believe me, it's in there tight no need to bolt it down.

I am in the process of finishing an original toolbox hat was cut to make it shallow. I have to say that it is indeed a lot of work. I am making mine look good using bodyfiller to smooth it out and painting it with a rubberized undercoating type paint. It is definitely more work than I anticipated, especially, since it will never be seen. (I guess I am demonstrating a little OCD  )

Take your time and do a lot of research and you will be fine. It is great to work on your car yourself. Very rewarding! Good luck with your project.

All the best!

Does anyone have a picture of this piece in application?
I'm not sure if you guys are experiencing the same problem but, I hear a resonance in my passenger side mids in a 2002.
