Hey Primers,
With all of the talk regarding NSX Values I thought it would be good to create the Unofficial Rare NSX thread.

“Ben” our local NSX Prime hero is the main catalyst for this as his post contained below highlighted some of the rare NSX’s to grace North America’s shores. I’ve gone a step further from his post and created the summary of rareness below. I’ve added Rarity by Color, Rarity by Number Produced, Rarity by Body Style and Rarity by Interior/Exterior Combination using the information provided in the WIKI.

Use the information as you wish but when someone says “What’s the rarest NSX’s out there for the U.S. market?” we can use this thread to show such. Some of the NSX’s are rare in not just one of these categories but perhaps two or three so don’t be surprised to see the same car listed in different categories (eg. Brooklands Green Automatic Coupe only 1 ever produced – it’s both a coupe and only one made in that year).

Secondly, I ask that owners of these cars post a quick reply as to the status of your car. It may help the collectability of NSX’s in the future.

Have a read below at the criteria I have chosen for each category:

Rarity by Exterior Color - is the total number of cars produced for a particular exterior color.

1. Monaco Blue Pearl (2000-2001) – 44 cars built

2. Imola Orange Pearl (2002-2005) – 49 cars built

3. Rio Yellow Pearl (2004-2005) – 53 cars built

4. Monte Carlo Blue Pearl (1997-1999) – 66 cars built

Rarity by Quantity Produced – highlights NSX’s made in limited quantities. These are the cars where only 1 was made in a given year, selected body style, transmission, or a selected color

Ben's Original Post:
Paraphrased from one of my posts 3 years ago...

All numbers below are based on American Honda's released figures. It is known that American Honda will fudge data to deny the existence of factory one-offs, so one must bear that in mind when doing any sort of count. For example, in American Honda's database, the factory one-off 1993 Brooklands Green/Tan (which I've seen and verified with my own eyes) is listed as a Grand Prix White.

The rarest color for the US market is Monaco Blue Pearl (2000-2001), with 44 cars built.
2nd rarest US Market color is Imola Orange Pearl (2002-2005), with 49 cars built.
3rd rarest is Rio Yellow Pearl(2004-2005), with 53 cars built
4th is Monte Carlo Blue Pearl (1997-1999), with 66 cars built

If you decide to lump Monaco, Monte Carlo, and Long Beach Blues as just "Blue", and Spa and Rio Yellows as just "Yellow", then the rarest would be Imola Orange Pearl, with Midnight Pearl being 2nd.

The rarest would be one of the following, of which only 1 example of each are known to exist (There might be more, but these are the ones off the top of my head):

- 1993 Brooklands Green/Tan NSX Coupe Manual (Factory one-off built to show the color internally within American Honda to decide if it should be offered in the US for 1994)

- 1996 Sebring Silver/Black NSX-T Manual (Factory one-off built for a very wealthy executive who owns/owned multiple NSXs over the years)

- 1996 Brooklands Green/Black NSX-T Manual (The only Brooklands Green/Black NSX-T Manual)

- 1997 Monte Carlo Blue Pearl/Black NSX Coupe Manual (The only Monte Carlo Blue NSX Coupe)

- 1998 Formula Red/Black NSX Coupe Manual Zanardi "Prototype" Factory one-off (http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=16)
American Honda's database lists it as a Formula Red/Tan Coupe

- 1998 Formula Red/Tan NSX Coupe Manual (The only 1997+ Formula Red/Tan Coupe)

- 2000 Monaco Blue Pearl/Black NSX Coupe Manual (The only Monaco Blue Coupe)

- 2000 New Formula Red/Black NSX Coupe Auto (The only New Formula Red Auto NSX Coupe)

- 2001 Grand Prix White/Tan NSX Coupe (The only Grand Prix White 1997+ Coupe)

- 2002 Imola Orange Pearl/Orange NSX-T Auto (The only Imola Orange Auto)

- 2004 Long Beach Blue Pearl/Black NSX-T Auto (The only Long Beach Blue/Onyx Auto)

Further narrowing it down, I would say the rarest of the rare would be:

- 2000 Monaco Blue Pearl/Black NSX Coupe Manual

Monaco Blue was produced in the fewest total numbers regardless of year/top/transmission/interior combination. This makes this particular 2000 Coupe the rarest member of an already rare subset of all NSXs. The rest of the above colors were produced in larger total numbers for other year/top/transmission/interior combintations)

If you decide to lump Monaco, Monte Carlo, and Long Beach Blues together as just "Blue", then the rarest becomes:

- 2002 Imola Orange Pearl/Orange NSX-T Auto

Lots of time went into this research/post......good info & thank you!

Wow, what a thread! Thanks Cam and Ben!

completing this thread was awesome, nice job, had some time on your hands it seems.

great work.

but you left out how many bolts are in each car for each year. LOL j/k

Thanks indeed..there are also some not so common combos like my berlina/tan 96 I think there are only 46 made in that category.

You want status on some of these rare cars so be it. I own the Sebring Silver/Black manual NSX-T (factory one off build). The car is always garaged. I daily drive this vehicle. I currently have 34,950 miles on her (it had 30,450 when I picked her up). I have done zero mods to the body or engine. Previous owners have put on a different set of rims, cold air intake, HID bulds with controllers, and a NAV system. I dont have any of the stock items. The only things I have done to the car is new glass struts and a custom black leather trunk liner. Future things needed will be a front lip and trunk struts. The paint (which is the most important part) is close to flawless. I got some swirls marks which can easily be fixed. There is only one pea sized dent on the car which is in the front middle part of the targa top(which was done by a previous owner). I will be getting this removed with paintless dent removal. The only thing Im looking to do the car that isnt needed will be a upgraded sound system and Im done. I wash and wax the car every two weeks and a detail spray it also. I dry the car with a leaf blower to keep the paint looking good as possible. I hope this is the type of information you wanted to see.

Oh!I also want to thank you for starting this thread is was a great read.It must of been a lot of hard to work. The one thing that was hard to read for me was how many Monte Carlo/black NSXs there are. I had no clue there was Monte Carlos that were coupes.

good stuff, I love it...

Nice data consolidating by Jetpilot & Ben, and Tyra. A high-yield synopsis of this thread would be a great Prime Wiki addition/addendum.

I guess my plans for an imola as a 2nd nsx will be quite pricey. Thanks for the research and time put on this list.

Tyra many thanks! I've updated the information I presented above. Funny that these cars are not listed on the Wiki chart though. Ben will need to verify the cars or I will shortly.

Guys...its more of a love affair for recording these NSX's so hats off to Ben for starting with getting the ball rolling. He gave me the info to help present it in this fashion.

I have one of the rio/black 1 of 53 with 6300 miles.

I own a 2000 Monaco Blue/Black
Purchased new May 2001
Number 264
Mileage: 12,256
Still looks, runs and smells new

Nice to see a lot of NSX owners on Prime. It's an enthusiast and rare car, so the percentage on here is probably greater than that of other cars and their forums.

Nice to hear of the $65K offer on Tabasco's car. I'd say thats pretty hot.

Excellent list!!

You forgot this one though:

1994 Grand Prix White / Onyx (5-Speed manual) = 20 produced
