Unlocking the iPhone - without physical alteration

Just got this from my friend.

http://brianhund.blogspot.com/2007/09/iphone-unlocking-service.html

I've been holding off until all the kinks have been worked out–I've
heard about many issues related to post-unlock operation of the
iPhone & I believe that I've got those issues under control.

My experience has been that companies providing the unlocking have
not been concerned about the provisioning that is needed for all the
data services (save for the Visual Voicemail AT&T provides) to work.

Those issues have been addressed. This weekend I'll be testing out
one last provisioning issue so that I can be sure that I'm 100%
confident in releasing the Unlocking & Provisioning service– the
details that my clients have come to expect.

So if you, a client, or family member want an iPhone, but want to use
your home GSM service provider (T-Mobile on the Left Coast), please
let me know.

Have a Great Weekend, and for some, Happy Holy Days,

Brian Hund,

There is a free SW unlock with full UI available. Anyone can do it -- no need to pay someone to do it for you.

One thing to be aware of is that Apple will be releasing updated firmware for the device. It's easy for them to detect an unlocked phone and it wouldn't surprise me if one of their changes "inadvertantly" bricked unlocked phones.

Vance,
I have a software unlocked iphone. Using it with T-mobile. My recommendation for anyone looking to unlock their iphone, just save yourself the time and trouble and pay someone to do it. Sure there SW unlocks out there for free, but the instructions (if any) are crap. Figuring the thing out and tons of trail and errors will end up wasting a good 5hrs or more. Maybe it was just me...i'm no tech geek.

Arshad - do you have one? Im wanting one, but even if I unlock it and get it going here in Canada (where data transfer is $$$$), Im worried it will cost me hundreds of bucks a month.

Dave, I don't have one but I can get you one. Rogers data plan is the biggest issue though. I have a friend in the cellphone business who's selling them -- I'll talk to him about the data charges.

octechgeek: There are newer SW unlocks which are very straightforward to use.

I would like to go the same route one day. What are you using for a plan from T-Mobile for data? I'm currently using a Blackberry Pearl, and I am using Blackberry service for e-mail and web browsing.
