You need to clean the UNI foam filters properly so that you do not damage the foam or the adhesive that holds the foam to the frame.

First of all don’t use gasoline to get the oil off (the gas or other solvents will make the foam brittle over time and start eating away at the glue holding the foam to the frame). UNI sells their own brand of aerosol cleaner.

Spray some cleaner on the foam; let it soak in for about 5-10 minutes and then rinse off. All you have done at this stage is to break down the oil from the foam. Now to wash the filter, soak it into a tub of hot water and dishwashing soap. Depending on how dirty the filter is, I usually do this 2 to 4 times until the foam looks like new again. Let it air dry completely and re-oil.

If you store your car over the winter, wash the oil off the foam filter (as described above) to make the filter last longer.

If you follow these directions, your filter will last for a long – long time.
