i have a 2000 NSX with 14,000 miles. the ride is not that comfortable. i seem to feel every bump. the rear tires need to be replaced. any other suggestions? do all nsx's have a rough ride?

Hi Chris,

First of all, welcome to this site and to the forum. There's lots of information to be found here.

As far as your ride is concerned. Is your car lowered in any way or modified to have a stiffer suspension?
Also, did you check your tire pressure?
My NSX is not unconformtable to me, but comfort is of course a very subjective term. I think most NSX-drivers tend to prefer a stiffer ride since this is what we expect in a sportscar. I do know people who think my NSX is very stiff and bumpy at times but personally I don't feel that way at all.

Welcome to the HOOD!!!

I'd have to agree with MVM, if I wanted a smooth ride I would have purchased a Cadi STS.

Although the NSX's ride is considered excellent for a car in its class, it's no Caddy...As the tires wear, you will definitely notice a degradation in ride quality (especially on the stock Yoko's).

Can't say I've observed that through several sets, and not sure why it should be true. Wouldn't thinner tread rubber be more compliant? Or do you suspect that for some reason more is transmitted to the sidewalls?

I would suggest you try getting together with other NSXers to try their cars and have them try yours. Best comparison would be with someone with a relatively new, stock car or with an older stock car that has had the shocks replaced recently. Handling suffers as the shocks wear, and aftermarket suspensions are typically firmer/rougher in ride than stock ones.

Ken,

That was exactly what I was thinking. Drive a few of them.

Chris,

I am in NY, and there are a few other owners in your area. If you would like private me and we can see if we can work something out.

I do suspect you are more accustom to a car geared towards a smooth ride rather then a sport ride. I have to say, out of many sporty cars I have owned my NSX is the most comfortable car of them all.

Wow, I'm surprised no one has offered to trade you a Camry or Accord yet! Some of these folks can be real helpful in these instances.
If car is stock, I do agree with the post on being used to a stiffer car suspension.
I had a friend who was buying a new 350Z and backed out saying the cars ride was horrible. Of course they were dring an Acura CL at that time so it would seem rough.
Good Luck!

I also felt the ride was extremely stiff the first time I drove my NSX. I thought, there must be something wrong.

I was use to an Acura RL ride and the roughest ride I had before that was an Acura Integra which I though was plenty stiff.

After the second or third drive, I was starting to get use to the stiff ride. Now I find the ride satisfactory. Still stiff, but comfortable.

An NSX isn't going to be a soft ride.

If you bought your NSX new and the ride was not objectionable then, replace the tires and it will go back to that softer ride.

Do all NSXs have a rough ride? No, only those that have had their suspensions modified do, and perhaps the Zanardi model. Modifying the suspension by installing aftermarket springs and shocks as well as bigger wheels with lower profile tires will always give you a rough ride. Some people don't mind a rougher ride and that's fine but it sounds like you don't enjoy it. If you bought your car used, perhaps it has already been modified by the previous owner. If so, then go back to the original components and you will return that nice soft ride - for a sports car, that is.

huh. i had the exact opposite opinion. first time i drove nsx i was surprised how smooth the ride was. that is coming from a tl, and an escalade.

what are you used to driving?? keep in mind we have really lousy roads here, too. drive a lotus, 348 or vette and you'll probably think youre in a bentley nsx.
