turn signal issue revisited

I am experiencing the erratic no-return on my directional signals . I took out the return signal unit/switch and throughly cleaned the contacts on the return switch, reassembled everthing, and now neither signal ever returns automatically! At least before , they worked erratically.

In taking the switch apart, both plungers and their springs popped out of the switch. My question is: is it important which plunger goes into which side? I noticed the the contacts on the plungers seemed to be bent in different directions from each other. However, both plungers fit perfectly into either groove in the switch and both move very freely ( with the appropriate spring action) when the switch is put back together. Could it be that the plungers have to go into specific grooves in this switch?

I called 2 dealers so far --one quoted $270 for the new unit, the other $202 . I'll be calling around to other dealers on Mon. Does anyone have any good recs for suppliers for this part--better still, does anyone have one which he/she may want to sell? If I can't get mine to work, I'll be forced to buy.

Thanks, Tyra--that's the thread I used to do the job. In the meantime, i took the unit out again and switched the plungers. I still get no automatic shut off. I'll be likely have to buy a new one at these rediculous prices--very frustrating!
