I am about to do a timing belt change on my 92' with 23,000 mi. While i'm there I am going to do the H2O pump, cover, idler etc. Do I have to replace ALL the covers and rubber gaskets for the cover update? Should I replace the cam cover gaskets and cam end rubber plugs while i'm there? There are no leaks at this time. The original owner had NO TSB's performed. I am the second owner and the H2O hoses need to be done, the D/S sun visor split. All 3 amps and the ccu have gone bad. Send them to Brian. D/S window switch bad for the passengers window. Door thingies need to be replaced before it's to late. While I have the doors apart I am going to replace the door latch assys. as well.
Does anyone know if Acura will do anything to help with the replacement costs of the known bad parts?
Any help and guidence will be greately appreciated.

Thanks

Well no one responded... so I'll take a crack at it..

for the valve cover gasket and spark plug o rings it wouldn't hurt to change it. Especially since it's easy as heck... As far as the cam plugs, I haven't changed mine yet (probably should at this point... 92k)... but maybe you don't have to... just a lot more work really..

would acura help... honestly.. imo.. no... mainly b/c you are the 2nd owner of the car and from the sound of it, you haven't built much of a reputation w/ your local acura..

however, if you've got the skills to do a timing belt, then the labor part is all you... if you do searches there are many places throughout the country that will give you good discounts for being an nsxca member, etc.

good luck,
x

Why would anyone think a manufacturer should "help" on a car that is 10 years out of warranty?

There have been cases where the dealership will assist the owner (usually the original owner) with some of the costs due to TSB's. However, it's usually the original owner and usually done through the dealership that the car was purchased from...

I got some assistance with my SNAP RANGE trans about a year and a half ago but I work for Acura.

The only difference in the updated timing cover is that it has a extra hole in it for the waterpump weep tube. What many people do is drill a small hole in their old cover to accomodate the new pump. I have a new cover that I use as a template when I do this. When you get your parts from the dealer, ask to see the new cover and take the measurements were the extra hole is. This will save you a couple hundred bucks.
